Format of AC suddenly changed - interviewing with two divisions

Hi,

In a couple of days I have an AC . Yesterday I received a mail telling me that the structure of the AC had been changed. They have removed 1/3 of the agenda, and replaced it with interviews with another team than the one I applied to.Consequently, I have interviews with two divisions. After having reviewed both divisions, I would love to work in both.

How should I approach this? If for instance, I am asked to say which division I would like to work for, will I be automatically dinged from the other one if I state my preference? I have tried reviewing various interview prep books and sites, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

Here's my two cents - others may disagree.

Since they sprung this on you a few days before the AC I believe it's fair for you not to necessarily choose one group and disavow the other. Most likely they may not ask about it, but in either case make sure you have 3 or so specific reasons why you want to work in each group. That way you can express genuine interest in both if they do not ask. However, if they do ask you which one you prefer, I would probably phrase it something along the lines of "Although I originally applied for Group A, after seeing Group B on the agenda I did some research and am really excited about both groups for different reasons." Then, based on which group you are interviewing with, have 3 or so specific reasons why you want to work in that group.

In the event that they are really forward about it, I would have an opinion on which group you truly prefer, just in case.

Hope this helps - good luck!
