Forming "Deep-Dive" Research Ideas

Hey all --

The title says it all. My analyst has been ranked #1 in his/her sector for a few years and due to a multitude of reasons, has recently dropped to a runner up. My goal is to do whatever I can to get him back up to the #1/#2 level and the only thing I can control is creating value-additive research.

Furthermore, I want to start shining through the pack at my company and this is one way to do it, in my opinion. I am looking for some tips on where to come up with report ideas to research.

Idea off the top of my head: -Look at some of the names in your sector that aren't covered that well and start prepping for coverage (not sure how that process of covering a name works) -Get your hands on your comps published research to see what they're doing differently. Think about what you can bring to the table the street probably hasn't seen (i.e. more reading, deeper analysis, channel checks, etc.) -Clean up the models of the companies you currently cover
