Freaking out about BofA background check

I'm completing the BofA background check right now and it says "Incomplete, missing data or discrepancies may result in an unsatisfactory result. Individuals with an unsatisfactory result cannot be considered for employment at Bank of America for 90 days from the date of the result."

I'm freaking out about this and it's making me anxious. I can't remember the exact start dates of places I interned at like 4 years ago, for example, would this result in my background checking becoming unsatisfactory? Please help!

If you are just completing it and it says incomplete, doesn't it mean you just haven't filled out all of the information yet? BofA won't care at all about whether you started June 7th or 9th years ago, if you truly can't find the dates don't sweat it. They just want to make sure you actually worked there.

Give it a week or two and then reach out to HR if you still have issues.

Relaxe they aren’t going to fuck you for not remembering a date. Just input the dates as best as you can recall.

Funniest

I had a BofA background check for SA and I got called by some HR person.

“Hello anon, why were you not employed from x date to x date”

“I was a HS student and then went to university”

“We’re you on any unemployment benefits?”

“No?”

“Why not? Is there any reason you did not qualify due to legal shit idk”

“I was 15 year old high schooler living with my parents”

I swear there’s 5 posts a week at least with undergrads freaking out about background checks. These aren’t performed by the FBI. They’re just checking to make sure you worked at the companies you said you worked at previously and that you don’t have a serious criminal background. If you are a recent grad maybe check your transcript to make sure you attended school where you said. Even if you have some type of criminal record as long as you disclose it you should be fine. I say that because I’ve worked at 3 different banks so far and the first time I lateraled HR asked me if I had any criminal background to disclose and that it wouldn’t affect my employment but they just needed to know so they could get the ball rolling on the proper paperwork so I could start by my start date.

There needs to be a banner on the top of WSO that says if you’re thinking about posting again about background checks PLEASE DONT

Dude you are chilling. I just went through a background check for this summer and two date discrepancies popped up. I wanted to be proactive about them so I reached out to the HR myself and spoke to her over the phone and she explained that even a day’s difference will come up as a discrepancy and that as long as they are in the same ballpark it doesn’t matter. She said they are mainly just looking for any legal/criminal checks or issues.

I was super worried about it but it turned out to be a non-issue.

Do they only check for previous work experience or extra-curricular activities as well? Also, what platform does BOFA use?

Did they only check work experience or extra-curricular/volunteer experience as well? Thanks

I think of it as the banks aren't out to get you. If anything, they want to give you the benefit of the doubt as they liked you (at least I hope so if they chose you) and don't want to go through the hassle to re-recruit someone else.

As long as you aren't a convicted felon or outright lied about where you worked, school, GPA, etc, you will be fine. Students need to think... does the mismatch change anything about my application (ex., a few date mismatches are fine. Like if you worked a GS for 13 months and you said 15 months, does that actually change anything? No it doesn't. But if you said you went to Harvard but actually went to WSO University, then yeah that's a problem)

Take a deep breath and relax. If anything comes up, they will call you to discuss.

That’s helpful.

What about the work experience? I got an internship a while back at a small pension fund via family connection. The fund didn’t have any structured internship process so I was just taken on board without recruiting and I didn’t even sign a contract, just spent few months there, helped with a ton and learnt a ton. I want to put it on my resume but how do I convey it to HR if it pops up during the background check? Would lack of contract be an issue? The family connection no longer works there but the people I worked with did and they can verify I did in fact intern there. Would there be a problem because I doubt HR at a pension fund even knew I exist?

Thanks!

I also just completed a BofA background check but I actually made up some stuff. I actually got fired of my last job and put on the background check that I got laid off. Also put a friend's phone number in the 'Manager phone #' so if they call my friend will vouch for me. It's been a week and I haven't got called. Hopefully everything turns out well.

Do you guys thinks I'm not passing the backround?

Other than that little lie I'm good on all the other stuff.
