Freshman Summer Advice?

Hi everyone,

I am currently a freshman at a T20 Semi-Target and am considering what I should do during my freshman summer. By the end of the year, I'll have accounting, Excel, managerial economics, and Java experience. Eventually, I want to end up in IB so I'm trying to look for any relevant experiences that might help me. Something I came across is the "Deloitte Pioneer Internship" (linked below) for first years and I was wondering if this, in any way, would help me build my resume and if not, what kinds of firms/opportunities should I be seeking out for the summer following my freshman year? Everything specifically finance related appears to be only for diversity candidates (which I am not, Asian male) or for sophomores or juniors.

The other things I'm considering include a summer abroad program but these still seem to be up in the air and a little sketchy given how Covid hasn't quite begun to subside just yet and maybe contacting other small PE/HF firms for potential opportunities but I'm not quite sure which firms to target and how appropriate this might be...

I know freshman are sometimes frowned upon for trying to be "hardos" but I don't have family connections and I know my school isn't a top target either so I'm trying my best to be on the right track

Thanks!
