Freshman/Complete non-target. Want to break into Operations/BO. Help!

I go to a complete non target in the NYC Area. (However GS hires people for Finance/Controllers from here)

I am not going to lie to myself and think that I can a FO gig at Morgan Stanley or something like that.

I am just looking for an Operations Summer Analyst position. (Prefer GS due to the fact that I can walk to their NJ building)

Non-target/Freshman/Econ/3.7

So how do I go about doing this?

Just apply online? Or is there anything else I can do?

(Anyone know the deadline for GS SA position for the upcoming summer?)

Thanks.

Dude, if you want IB, you can definitely get IB. Your in NYC, your networking opportunities are endless. I go to a complete nontarget, far from any banking center and have an offer at a MM boutique and was able to land interviews with top MM's. I also didn't know what investment banking was and had zero internship experience until the end of my sophomore year. Get a PWM internship this summer or during spring semester. AFter you have PWM under your belt, start networking with regional boutiques and land a boutique gig summer after Sophomore year or even during sohpomore year and stay through the summer. Start networking now and if you keep your grades up and get some relative expereince I guarantee you can land BB SA interviews. I would also look into transferring, but if it is not an option for financial reasons, you can definitely still land an IB gig. Don't sell yourself so short man.

Reading the title I thought this was another of squirtles jokes...

Listen to SHORTmyCDO, you still have a lot of time man and I think you should really go for it, IB is in reach.

There are more and more non-targets breaking in, and often differentiate themselves by being seen as more hungry and with a chip on their shoulder. Network and learn more than the target guys are willing to.

you will receive a much better education at a target and also have a much better recruiting network. bbs come to your door essentially to beg you to sign with their bank. it truly is unbelievebale - please look into transferring for your own good. on WSO you see people giving congratulations to kids who were able to break into a boutique - these are non targets. If I told my classmates I got into a boutique the universal thought would be - what the fuck happened? that is because gs, ms, jpm, cs, baml, db, ubs, citi, lazard, etc. ALL come to campus.
