Fundraising for a nonprofit? I'm a new junior board member
Recently joined a newly established junior board of a local nonprofit org. One of our 2019 goals is to raise some $$$, but I'm inexperienced in this nonprofit fundraising game --
Can I get some suggestions/ideas? Anything is appreciated. Note that I work for a startup so it's hard to get HR to organize some kind of corporate donation/volunteering events.
Make your own donation, the most you can afford, if you haven't already.
Call all your friends who have similar leadership positions at non-profits. Solicit them for donations, and mention you are willing to give to their charities (the same amount as they give to yours, although it's tactless to put it so baldly). Ask friends who own businesses to donate something in-kind, if appropriate.
Have the charity do a nice little social event for "new donors," or do it yourself. Traditionally, you do a small golf tournament, or some dress up event with the wives, maybe a charity auction. Our wholesaler just went to a "Great Gatsby" party.
In a couple of years you have a nice little network of donors to your charity. The more money you raise, the less you need to give yourself, if you're not filthy rich.
Know rich people. Guilt them into donating.
I don't derail this topic thread, but would you mind sharing your pathway to becoming a junior board member of a nonprofit entity? It's something I'd be interested in, I figure it would be easier (not to mention, more effective) than me trying to create a nonprofit from scratch. Is it a case of contacts and simply knowing someone who's already involved on a senior level?

It usually involves gifting a large enough amount that the current board will bend over backwards to keep you involved in the organization. Studies have shown that the more involved donors are with a group, the more likely they are to give (approx. 35% larger donations).
