Funds of funds Interview - Info please.

Hey guys,

I have an interview this Thursday at a FoF in NYC. I've been out of work for 2 months time now after doing a 1.5 year stint in a BB as a risk analyst on a trading desk. Some internal developments forced me to move, it's a long story.....ain't they all?

I have been trying to align myself with another BB (possibly my former one, in a different group) as an associate, specifically in research (since there seem to be absolutely no S&T jobs out there). I have been developing my modeling skills and while working towards my CFA III and would say they're probably about 7 - 8/10, still have some ways to go.

Anyways, so I have this interview at a FoF as an "analyst." My questions are as follows:

1) What is the environment at a FoF like, compared to a trading desk?
2) Has anyone ever interviewed at a FoF for an analyst role? Is the interview primarily technical? Fit?
3) Where does a job like this usually lead a person's career? (I'm relatively young - 25 years old)
4) Finally, what should I expect at a boutique rather than a BB?

I have no prior work experience at a U.S. firm as I moved here from another country to work at the BB so I apologize if some of these questions seem infantile.

Thanks.

1) Environment will be much slower-paced than a trading desk. Its a small firm so be prepared to show you're willing to wear different hats and handle different responsibilities besides due dligence on managers.

2) I expect it should be Fit, especially since the firm is so small, I doubt they're carrying out heavy quant modeling. Talk about your experience with Excel though.

3) Usually an Associate role at a larger FoF (Blackstone, MS, Neuberger Berman etc). You'd have to get an MBA to switch to the Direct side I'd imagine.

4) No idea what comp would be for a firm so small.
