Generalist / Hybrid roles
Who in the PERE 100 list would you categorize as having a generalist role that has both the following criteria:
1) "cradle to grave" lifecycle with the ability to work on both acquisitions and development
2) broad exposure to more than one asset class.
I enjoy the faster paced natured of acquisitions, but would like to have some exposure to working on development deals, but not necessarily spend all my time on entitlements and project management.
From what I have gathered #2 is more common, but #1 is less likely as most larger shops segment/silo the two disciplines. An ideal role would be a 60% acquisitions /40% development time allocation split. Do such roles exist at the bigger firms or is this only common at smaller shops?
Thanks in advance.
Google is your resource here friend. Do some leg work yourself before asking people to do your research for you.
my bad dude, you are right, it was too general before. Would appreciate if you took another look
Some of the large opportunistic funds will fit that criteria. I think you will struggle to find groups that fit all of the criteria you want though. Usually there will be give and take
.
A little confused by your post. You are wanting to work at a large real estate firm that has both a private equity style fund business as well as a development business and then be allowed to flex between the two business units? These large firms tend to segregate these business lines very strongly by necessity/common sense. I know Hines is hard separated, I believe similar at Related (less sure on this one to be honest). Working across what business units (most common structure implied) is really not common anywhere to my knowledge.
Smaller firms (will not make the PERE 100 most likely) can be different, by necessity.
Did you mean working acquisitions for a developer? i.e. being full value chain on a development deal?
If so, consider just researching developer firms, the PERE 100 list is not a great starting point. (not a list based on development activity after all)
Thank you! Will look into acquisition roles for development
Ignoring the "PERE 100 list", an investment/development role at pretty much any local operator/GP fits this description. Obviously the bigger the shop the more siloed your role will be.
Thank you
