Georgia Tech PhD Computer Science
I'm doing an undergrad in computer science at Georgia Tech right now and I'm doing data science research. I will most likely do a Master's as well here. However, after that I want to do a PhD related to Machine Learning. There's a good professor here for trading research involving machine learning. What's my ceiling coming out of Georgia Tech?
Georgia Tech, as you must know, has a fantastic CS program both at the undergraduate and graduate level. I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to do well coming out of there.
The reason I ask is because I've heard GT isn't a "target" school, but I do know that it has a well respected CS program.
Could I work at a hedge fund right after a CS PhD from here?
Being at a "target" school does not matter for CS PhD candidates. On this forum, "target" schools are schools that bulge bracket banks recruit on-campus from for IBD, S&T, etc. positions. The term "target school" is entirely irrelevant to you. The route for PhDs into hedge funds is totally different. Once you are well along in your PhD program, start networking with headhunters in the quant space to indicate interest. They will do a lot of the work on your job search for you.
Would a PhD in ML be better than a Master's in Financial Engineering?
