Given how secretive Schuler and Tierney are, I suspect GETCO is now looking up tgtrader's IP address and sending a black security van to his house. :D

In all seriousness, if you worked for GETCO, you wouldn't be posting that. If you had friends at GETCO, they wouldn't be telling you what they're making. What happens at GETCO tends to stay at GETCO, and people who get hired by GETCO tend not to leave.

Really? Ppl working at a trading firm tend to never leave, they also never tell anyone how much they make? Stop reading spy novels....

Learn a bit more about the industry.... Like hedge funds, trading firms tend to be rather secretive, GETCO is known to be the epitome of that. Given the fact that IlliniProgrammer is in industry and you don't appear to be, I would listen to him. If you search this forum, you will find near nothing about the firm, it's interview process, anything and that's not a coincidence.

Look, the fact that I work in industry doesn't mean that I'm wrong.

I have had some experience interviewing at GETCO and knew a few people who worked there when I was back in Chicago. People who knew about the firm back then would joke that Tierney and Schuler were the Illuminati of finance; good luck finding a picture of either of them to this day.

They have their reasons for keeping the firm under the radar and I would be surprised if employees were posting salaries unless they were absolutely sure it wouldn't get back to the firm. Not saying the firm has secret police running around, but they definitely have a very good strategy for keeping information about the firm under wraps.

No offense to IlliniProgrammer or yourself (I'm not saying this sarcastically either), but I wasn't joking when I said trust me. GETCO is 80k base + a nice bonus set up (which I WON'T discuss because that is actually fairly confidential, unlike the base number for the most part). IMO, GETCO is the Google of the Financial Industry, and their ability to retain employees is unlike most other well-known firms in the industry.

To the OP, if you think you have a chance to work there... take it and don't look back. They don't take very many people, especially out of undergrad.

illini, dude from your posts you seem like a nice guy. you have some good opinions and some good info.

but you have to admit that sometimes you get carried away. i'm probably guilty of some displays of insecurity on this forum, but dropping that pair of names (Schuler and Tierney) on more than one thread is a bit insecure, que no? unless you go golfing with them to sidney marovitz on sunday afternoons! (i know you are in nyc, but hey weekend trips to chi are possible). exaggeration is similar. (for instance chp doesn't have a 1590 sat median! i was accepted on invitation, and though i did beat that median, that number should be closer 1500. and uiuc's admission is rate closer to 50-60%). you made it to bb s&t bud. relax!

Illini is a nice dude and very bright. But he does get carried away with his trolling for his alma mater and the midwest in general. I've noticed that a lot of big 10 alums have this characteristic, either due to insecurity from getting rejected at ivy league schools and/or disdain for what they perceive as east coast elitism.

It's cause of the wind, women and having to sit through a cubs season every summer. You gotta feel for them.
