Getting into M7 Schools with 1 year of experience?

Hi All,

Looking for any insight (could be anecdotal or just a couple of data points), but how hard is it to get into M7 schools with one year of FT experience? Not sure if it is relevant, but I am thinking about doing an Evening/Weekend MBA program, so my intention is not to leave / quit my current company.

Did some research and just want to provide an update for anyone else interested in this topic. Multiple M7 schools have specific evening or weekend MBA programs designed for people with exclusively 1-3 years of experience. So the exact opposite of what Telemachus stated is true. Kellogg and Booth at least both have these specific programs, but I do not think they are offered at H/S/W or Columbia. Just a couple data points.

Which evening/weekend MBA programs at multiple M7  programs have an average student with 1 year (not 1 - 3) of experience as you originally stated?

Love to see the links to where 1 year experience is the average at an M7 for a weekend / evening program. These programs are geared to experienced professionals, those with 1 years WE are the outliers. However, if you think this is incorrect, please post the evidence as I would love to see it.

Thanks!

It's rare, but not impossible. A couple of programs even have scholarships for kids to go right out of undergrad. For an E/W program, it wouldn't make sense just because you wouldn't even have enough work experience to fully appreciate the classes. For FT, I'd also argue that it doesn't make sense to go early for a similar reasons. Ad coms are trying to build a well rounded class and to convince them you can contribute to a business oriented degree, despite having little business experience is going to be tough. You also burn any chance you have of using an MBA as a career pivot down the road. You might like your job now, but a lot could change in the next ~4 years. It's nice to have an opportunity to go back down the road. I'd also argue that being so young, you'd have a tough time connecting with your classmates. Men mature more slowly and I can tell you that your maturity as well as general life experience as a 22/23 year old will likely be far lower than your peers. That's not a knock against you, you're just in a different stage of life, which will make it tougher.
