Getting into Risk Management, from Compliance
I am a recent graduate in Quantitative Finance and I just accepted an offer for an AML/KYC position at a big bank. However, my real passion is Risk (Market and Credit, not so interested in Operational) and I want to switch to Risk some day.
Do you think such a career move is possible? Or are the two fields too unrelated to each other to make the switch possible?
I have a master degree in quantitative finance with some courses focused Risk Management. Plus I took a 6-month internship in Risk at an asset management company, and loved it. Unfortunately, the internship is over and the only offer I got so far is the AML entry level position.
What is the best way to get into Risk? Try to network within my current company, or try to look at other banks, or maybe a Big 4, in a Risk advisory role? Also when should I start looking? Should I start ASAP, or stick to my current role for a year or two?
Thank you for your advice
