GF Situation... Advice Welcomed
Let me start off by saying, this is not one of those silly threads trying to be funny, this is a real situation and I am seeking advice so I would really appreciate constructive ideas on how to approach the situation (you are allowed to be funny too though, just please contribute a bit about the situation as well).
So I met my current girlfriend during a summer analyst stint at a BB in NYC last summer. We both ended up accepting offers back to the same bank as we liked our groups, people etc. We have been together for about a year now and are very serious (not suicidal though, ie not living together lol). Breaking up/ "bro dont date a banker chick" are not options so please dont go there. We are starting work this summer and while we made it through last summer by just not talking at work and keeping the relationship under wraps, now a few people know about it and while we can keep it secret, I feel like down the road that could have problems.
We are both working in FI but will def be in separate groups so its easy to go our separate ways at work and it doesn't affect the work we do. A friend of mine suggested that I simply ask the HR contact (who I have a good relationship with) what the policy on relationships are (even know I kind of know its technically not cool), and gauge the reaction.
Any thoughts, advice, stories, etc?
Thanks ahead of time!
Are all wall street firms hiring tards nowadays? If she's in a different dept then nobody f-ing cares. Hell, I've shared my love sausage with teh lovely ladies in several other departments including an HR intern. It's all good.
"love sausage"...nice!
why would you date a banker girl when there are so many better choices
back in the day, you had to disclose this kinda thing to compliance
It only matters if the person is in your line of command - i.e. one is a superior to the other within the same group, like you can't date your staffer. You're in different groups so it doesn't matter. Just keep it professional in the workplace and you shouldn't have problems.
And keep it out of your work email at all costs.
your bank will fire you unless you dump her, and then fire her if she doesnt dump you afterwards. Plus you save her the pain when upon realising she's dating a muppet.
Seriously dude... they won't care. Just dont do this

As long it does not effect your work performance and the person is not a direct boss/report you should not have an issue. You would be suprised how many firms do not have a policy regarding same level people dating. Just keep it off their radar and do not let it effect your performace you should be fine.
I think you will be fine. Ahsim Kahn the 28 year old morgan stanley trader who went to Brevan Howard for 25 million met his wife at Morgan Stanley. They were both working as traders in fixed income at the time.
Heres the article if you don't believe me:

His mom is a loan officer and his dad is a social worker? Are men even allowed to be social workers?
