Ghosting after seemingly great interviews

Had a first round phone screen with Head of the department (let's call him A). He then passed my resume to his colleague (B) and said he wanted me to talk to B. My interview with B was very chill, almost like a conversation. He mainly walked me through past projects, gauged my interest and asked me about my project outside of school. B said A spoke highly of me, and he really liked my energy and thought my skill set will be valuable for this position. He also said I'd like the city when asked about my hobby.

It's been almost a week and I still haven't heard from them, although B said they'd reach out to me about the next step. He didn't specify the hiring timeline tho. They were very fast with coordination when A referred me to B. Interview was set up only a day later. But I haven't heard anything in a while. Am I being ghosted? Why do they give me so much hope just to straight up ghost me?

Like a poster above said, it happens everywhere. It would be nice to get a reply but they don't usually make it a point to do so. Sometimes you have a good interview and they decide to interview someone more attractive. Plus, when it's someone like a senior assoc in charge of recruiting that opens his inbox to a deluge of emails that takes a whole hour to go through and he has a meeting to prep for at 8am, he has to prioritize. Don't take it too hard man, it happens quite a bit!

After a while you get used to the overnight automated template emails of "While your background was impressive, we've decided to move forward with other candidates at this time." It's just an unfortunate day to day reality of dealing with corporate culture these days.

The poster formerly known as theAudiophile. Just turned up to 11, like the stereo.
