GMAT - Senior at Michigan
I've got a question about the GMAT's and wanted to find some advice....
I'm a Ross Senior at Michigan, entering a MM IB this fall, with a 3.7 GPA. I wanted to know around what score would make me competitive at HBS/SBS/Wharton. And would schools like Haas/Columbia/Stern be much easier to get in?
I've spoken with MBA's here and many say that for scores around 700-740, your GMAT won't necessarily matter, but any score above would be considered an additional positive on your application, and any below would be considered a negative.
Is this for the most part true? What scores should I be shooting for?
The advice you received is accurate. A score between 700-740 will make you competitive at H/S/W. Anything above 740 is a plus but not required. Adcomms want to ensure that you hit the 80/80 split on quant and verbal to show that you are well rounded. With a 3.7 GPA from Mich, a 700+ GMAT and a few decent years of work experience at a MM IB you should be competitive for any of the M7 schools. The businessweek b-school forums have some good info (but also a lot of garbage). You should be able to find everything you need on WSO.
Feel free to take the test 3 times as most schools take your best combined score. Scores are good for 5 years. Get involved in some ECs and you should be golden. Good luck.
