Goldman Sachs ACCELERATED summer internship?
Is anyone familiar with the accelerated summer internship process? I know goldman does this for FT, but I've never heard of it for SA. What is the interview process like, and is it a significant advantage over regular recruiting?
and no, this is not study abroad
banks do it for SA as well, and yes it is an advantage.
Why is it an advantage?
Does anyone know how Goldman chooses people to email this program to?
I believe the app is open for for sophomores and juniors. What are the chances of sophomores getting something like this, especially coming from a semi-target?
Would appreciate any comments!
Can anyone who's familiar with this shed some light? The application deadline is tomorrow and I'm debating whether to apply.
I feel like I could be much more prepared if I waited until January (didn't know about this until 2 days ago), but if it gives you a better chance...
It's also interesting that there's practically no information about this in past threads (it's all focused on accelerated FT)...is this new?
Interesting that I also got the email now. When I was a junior they didnt send me shit...
bump
I'm just curious.. does anyone know how or why they received the app? How does HR decide who to send this to?
I wrote my name/email down when GS was at a career fair on campus, and I assume I got the email because of that. Can't see any other reason GS has my email.
Just submitted the app. Looks like HR sends it to points of contact at various schools.
I'm assuming if you apply for the accelerated an don't get in, you won't have another chance during regular SA recruiting right?
Yes, this is correct
Has anyone heard back yet? I got an e-mail saying we will hear back no later than midway through November. If we didn't hear back yet, is it safe to assume we didn't get the interview, or is there still hope...

I'm in the same boat. My contact said I am definitely getting a super day, but I am now a little nervous since I haven't heard anything.
Anyone else heard back for November super days?
Did accelerated for SA at a top BB. Assuming this is actual accelerated (mostly for kids who did sophomore programs), not just for folks going abroad in the Spring: 1. It is an advantage, because they're very selective about who they go through the trouble of offering these accelerated slots to, and in the interest of not wasting anyone's time if they're willing to interview you early it's likely they'll give out a high percentage of offers. 2. If you get rejected it may not look great, but you can still reapply with the general applicant pool. Especially if something substantive changes in the meantime (new job, better gpa, more contacts, more polished interviewing skills, etc)
Some of it's true, but at the same time, accelerated interviews are a gamble for the firm, because they're giving out offers without having seen the entire applicant pool. I can't even count how many times they'll ask during interviews "Why should we give you an offer now rather than wait for the rest of the applicants" when I've applied accelerated. Also, banks love pushing decisions back (waiting multiple weeks because there's not as much pressure from competing offers or OCR deadlines) during accelerated interviews.
As for the second point, I'm not sure about other banks, but I know that GS doesn't let you apply for normal recruiting once you've been rejected from accelerated.
Both of these are wrong...there is no advantage given to those that apply early, they are simply completing the process earlier. They don't have a preset number of interns they are looking to hire, so you are not given a certain higher percentage of offers. Also, if you are rejected, you cannot reapply, you are done if they reject you for the year, but you can reapply the next year for a FT or SA position if you applied as a sophomore.
Superday is on this coming Friday. Notifications were sent out last Thursday or Friday.
I applied and got an invitation for a superday this friday.
Did anyone get this? How competitive was it?
Got back already, know a columbia and duke person who got it
.
I was at the superday...in addition to the Columbia and Duke person i know of a Yale student and and 2 MIT students.
Which section did you apply to?
I think the study abroad accelerated superday is on a different day. FYI
I applied for securities and GSAM (at the October 31 deadline); and had 2 IMD interviews and 4 securities interviews. Got the offer in securities and waiting to hear regarding GSAM.
Thanks. I'm a junior (c/o 2012).
And grad_2012 is correct. You're not at an advantage or disadvantage. My school's recruiter told me there were some years where they took a ton of people from the accelerated interview and others where they only took a couple. But after you go through the superday we were told that one of 3 things would happen:
You'd be extended an offer. You'd be rejected; and wouldn't be able to apply later You'd be put on hold; and then considered again with the general pool of people that applied.
Did any juniors who went the the superday for IBD hear back yet?

The only correspondence has been an email sent out a few days ago confirming the application.
sorry for trolling
Congrats!!!
Same as @213830, only correspondence has been to confirm my application to the accelerated process.
"Current status is Application Under Review"
Applied with ACCEL14 code.
Congrats!
Do you think that HR screens all the resumes or do you need someone to pull your resume out for you?
Probably MD and above only
I thought it would be any employee who is able to make a referral to hr? obviously someone not who has been an employee for a week or two. My thinking is hr would really look out for referrals because they cut the time needed to swift through applications and they can also say they have been fair.
seriously though
If you go to a target/semi-target, there's a good chance they'll at least glance at all the resumes. At a non-target, probably shit out of luck.
Not sure if srs
Interested too. Anyone hear?
I do not think anyone has heard yet -- decisions should come out tomorrow (11/26)
.
Anyone else?
goodguygreg - Did you get an email from them? When did you hear back?
S&T, IMD, or IBD?
Got an email and a call. IBD
When is the superday?
Goodguygreg, when did you hear back?
Anyone heard from IMD yet?
Or from S&T?
bump..no reply yet :/
anyone doing study abroad? or is this all accelerated?
Still nothing here.. anyone else hear back yet?
Also Goodguygreg, did u apply to London ofc?
Hi everyone- not sure where you are in the process right now, but I got a few questions from people via PM and thought I'd post my answers here for everyone's benefit. (For context, I got an IBD offer during the first round of accelerated last year)
What prompted you to apply for the accelerated interviews? I applied early because I felt ready and thought it would improve my chances, plus I wasn't attached to any specific firm so didn't care if GS didn't work out
Are there inherent advantages in applying early? I think applying early is advantageous depending on the applicant. If you are a strong candidate and prepared for the interview, especially if you have previous finance experience, I think that applying early will always help your chances because the pool is just smaller and if they like you, they'll likely take you
What was your interview like? First round: 2 on 1 interview, very technical. second round: 3 interviews in a row, (two 1 on 1s and one 2 on 1). Mostly fit, some straightforward technicals thrown in, and stress testing. I didn't get any market oriented questions but I know other people did that day
Do you have any idea how many people they ended up giving offers to from the 25-30 kids at the IBD superday? I believe it started off with 50 in the first round, cut down to 20 second round, and 4 offers (2 wharton, 1 NYU, 1 UT). All interviewees seemed to have strong finance backgrounds, although there were plenty of randos who were totally unprepared
How did you prep? Focus on tech or fit? Very limited prep and felt relatively unprepared going in, but I focused on tech because I felt that was my weakness. M&I was good preparation. Fit is more important though! If you are a good fit interviewer, you will have an advantage for any position. This means really knowing the firm and having specific examples to back up what you say
Hope this helps! Good luck everyone!
First-round was on-campus interview, right? or there are two stages even on a superday: first round and second round?
Anyone hear anything yet?
One of my friends got an email saying decisions would be out this week. But I never did. Did you guys receive any email from them about the notification date?
@bobblehead, they sent out an email confirming applications to the accelerated process, in the email they said applicants who were selected would be notified by the 27th.
.
Thanks johnny. @goodguy - Is your superday in NY? When is it?
Do they inform people applying to different groups at the same time? If not, has anyone heard from research or s&t?
guess we are all didn't get superdays :(
Mass email was sent out today it seems..
Wait a mass email to people who got superdays? No notification to those who didn't get it right?
Got notified about a superday yesterday. Does anybody have an idea of how many people they're interviewing this way and how many they take?
When's the superday?
Seems like very few of us got in. I wonder how many people from previous year who did not get into the accelerated program got into the regular rounds. Also when are the regular rounds usually?
superday tomorrow at the NJ office!
@glendale how did your superday go? How many candidates were there?
I thought it went well, but I wasn't given a second round :( There were about 35 people interviewing for IBD and I think about 7 got second round interviews the same afternoon. Some of the rest were put on "hold" to hear back in a few weeks.
There were loads of other people interviewing for IMD and S&T.
How are you applying for SA if you were a junior last year, as your post history suggests?
has anyone who made it 2nd round heard back yet?
I know someone who has heard back. Offer for IBD
Although she rushed them into getting back to her by saying her previous summer internship also gave her an offer and she had to let them know whether or not she was returning asap
does anyone who made it into the second round in IBD have a list of who we interviewed with?
anyone hear back from December 18th superday?
Recently received a message for an upcoming IMD interview
anyone get in through this ac superday?

Does anyone know anything about what happens after we apply? I'm especially curious as to who selects interviewees, etc... I'm confident that once I get an interview I'm set but I'm worried about getting past the resume drop.
I've heard conflicting reports from several friends (including two working at goldman) and so naturally I'm coming to you, random strangers on the internet, for your input
Spoke to GS HR today. Can't comment on the interview selection but I can comment on the overall process.
If you didn't get the interview by now, you didn't get the interview for the accelerated SA process. With that said, your application will still fully be considered during regular internship recruiting which occurs next semester.
I was told that this was HIGHLY competitive. HR told me they chose 10 candidates across all schools (not sure if this is number of people who received interviews, or people who will receive offers from the accelerated process).
Hope this helps.
.
Not necessarily true. I applied at the October deadline (Oct 31) and I didn't get an invite to the superday until a week before the interviews which were Nov 19th. I also got the offer.
So I would wait at least until sometime next week. But if you are put on hold you will be considered again when normal recruiting picks up.
This is more/less spot on though not too many people are there to start with.
Haha.. dude HCM is HR, who cares what you label it?
BigBang two questions
1) Are you a candidate who called them up or are you a GS employee? 2) Which early application deadline are your referring to? They had Sept 28, Oct 28, and Nov 28 (I applied for the last one)
Thanks
the stats I've heard are like.. 3000 aps 600 interviews for IBD
I applied for two revenue generating divisions on Nov 27, according to the email I received from GS on Dec 2 afternoon, "To the extent that there is interest in your candidacy, you will be contacted regarding next steps by mid-December, at the latest."
same
Any other updates/has anyone else heard anything either way? (I'd appreciate if we could avoid discussing the stats as its just making me more stressed)
Has anybody who got an offer from the Nov19 superday received a physical offer letter yet?
it should be the same for all of us (i did emea and n america)
at least it seems like nobody's heard
.
I need to find out soon so I can plan my finals studying around this interview... I might have shot myself in the foot here having a possible GS interview on top of finals
I got an email to set up a phone interview for desk strategist, but didn't apply through their website, just submitted my resume at an on campus presentation... does it mean i'm considered for accelerated process? What should I expect from it? I don't think I'm interviewing for IBD...

Didn't apply to that one, but I did apply to the Accelerated Study Abroad application also due on 11/27 and got that one... Good luck!
@IBDforND May I know which division did you apply and when did you receive the interview invitation? I just got an email last Friday saying "successfully received"
Thanks
Heard back, go Summer 2012 IBD!!
Are you guys juniors or sophomores?
Good luck to all. 'I want to work at Goldman Sachs'
Old, I know, but for those who haven't seen:
Anyone hear back from Securities for AP2?
Is there going to be anymore notifications or is that going to be it?
Any one else hear back for 2012SAP2??
slow your roll. it hasn't been a day yet and you're already getting worked up over responses. give it a few days, at least
for those who heard back, was the email a personal email from a recruiter (i.e. the rest of us still have a chance) or a mass email??
Does anyone have any update?
I too have not heard anything. Have any sophomores received a response?
Seems like no one really has answered this question clearly. Saying you are selected for a superday in the accelerated process, is it a advantage or disadvantage?
Issues of relative applicant talent pool aside, getting an accelerated process superday interview means if you don't make it through, you won't be looked at again for regular season recruiting. If you don't get an accelerated interview though, you'll still have a shot at regular rounds
i just got an email today. it was a mass email, not personalized from a recruiter. & I'm a sophomore. Did anyone get a phone call first? Or was it just an email that got sent out?
Or actually, I take that back. The email WAS from a recruiter but it wasn't personalized to me, so it did look like a mass email.
Will GS inform us the decision of whether get into the accelerated process or not? It seems that the upcoming super day should be next Friday, right?
it's next thursday
Even though arguewithatree already got his acceptance letter for an interview from someone specific today, does Goldman generally announce their decisions all at once or could a recruiter be lazy and send out an acceptance email, say, tomorrow or Monday if the superday is next Thursday?
wait? next Thursday? Oh, no I was told GS will invite potential candidates to the office one week before........ Sucks!!!!!!!
The status of my application just changed from "Application Under Review" (or whatever) to "Application Received" -- any idea what this means? To those who were invited to super day, what is your status listed as?
mine has been application received for a while i think. i got the invite email and it's still 'application received'. so i'm not sure if that means anything
also, the recruiter i spoke to said everyone would know by december 9th. i'd give it until the end of friday before i got worried. there's a waitlist, so if someone can't make it they'll send more invites i'm sure.
Wait, when is their deadline for applying for Summer Internships? That is the in the case of an online application from a non-target school for a BO SA position.
Good luck all, went through the same process a few years back.
If you were being considered for multiple divisions it might take longer.
Okay, cool, that is definitely reassuring. arguewithatree -- Are you from a target or anything, or did you do any notable networking?
I'm worried that I was a little bit too aggressive. After submitting my app, I emailed a VP to basically say "thanks for talking to me and I applied to your firm" and attached my resume. We've talked before, but he didn't respond. I'm worried I offended him/overstepped a line/whatever. oh well
Can someone please let me know what the deadline for SA online application?
lettuce - it depends on what you consider a target. in terms of, does GS recruit from my school? yes, they do have postings on OCR and they usually come to campus twice to do info sessions. Do I go to an Ivy/would my school be consider high caliber? No, not really. Most people on this site probably wouldn't consider it a prestigious school. I didn't do much networking. I went to the info session but never followed up with anyone after, just introduced myself to a few bankers. Doubt that did anything though.
My status has changed from "application under review" back to " application received". Does it mean rejection?
nope i doubt that means anything. mine has always said application received i believe.
agreewithatree, that's weird. Shouldn't your status change to " interview schedule"? Or something else?
i have no idea, i guess not. maybe mine hasn't updated yet but i'm assuming the status doesn't mean anything.
Did anyone else hear back?
for those of you going or those that have gone before, how many people are usually at these things?
Still haven't heard back -- I assume it's not going to work out?
Do you guys think this is an ominous sign for the recruiting season?
What exactly is Goldman Sachs IBD Financing? Does a SA get experience at all the groups within it or is there another placement process before one starts? What are the exit opportunities after a few years?
Thanks in advance!!
Got the supeday offer call today.
super*
you got a call? That's odd, I thought they just sent out emails
Any juniors who went to the superday for IBD hear back yet?
Hi IBD! :) what kind of questions did you get at your SA interview?

What are your thoughts? Are you going to apply to this program or wait until normal recruiting season?
I got the email, demoz.
Yeah, I think we are from the same school. Are you planning on applying? Do you know if there are any consequences if we get rejected from the accelerated process?
Nah, I don't know if there are any consequences. But I'm going to apply and I'll keep you updated. BTW, I know you from collegeconfidential. I'm an active poster there.
GS does accelerated interviews at Cal Tech?
Lol. Close, but we aren't from Cal Tech.
I did it last year. If you aren't picked to interview for accelerated u are still considered for regular recruiting, but if you get interviewed and then rejected your taken out of the pool
At the end of the day, does it improve your chances? Or is it better to wait for regular recruiting?
Also, does it hurt to multiple divisions such as IBD and GSAM? Or better to just apply to one?
There are two early deadlines. One is coming up really soon and the other is about a few weeks later. Does applying to the earliest one make a big difference?
Wondering the same thing. Anyone also applying to Scholarship for Excellence?
Is this for the New York office?
Is this only at GS or at other firms as well?
PM me.
.
.
anyone know when's the latest to hear back? Anyone seeing status changes on the applications part of the GS careers website?
I applied to the October 30 deadline last year. I heard back on November 11th and superday was November 19th.
So going by last year, I'd imagine you'd hear back by Friday at the latest.
I applied for the November 28th deadline. Please keep us posted if/when you hear back. Good luck!
Just heard back about the superday next week a couple hours ago.
when is the superday? also are they all in the NY office?
Yes NY. Next Friday.
is that a wrap for the first round of accelerated you think? Is there usually only one batch of emails?
@moneymogul: Which divisions did you hear back for?
IBD.
i'd give it until friday for the rest of us...
@josiahsiung what division did you apply for? I did IBD but got nothing so I've pretty much given up if since an IBD interview request was already sent out . Maybe more luck during spring recruitment...
i did IBD as well. did you application update online?
Online app just says "received" for mine. Agree we should sit tight til Friday for IBD, though. Campus HR usually runs this stuff (for targets at least), so just because one person got an email back doesn't necessarily mean everyone around the country did.
But hey I'm just speculating.
yep, i'm with triplectz. i'm at a target and i know campus hr is running my process. also spoke with someone from my school who did it last year and she was notified the friday prior to the interview.
I'm from a non target if that helps you guys figure anything out.
Has anyone from a target heard yet?
^ wondering this as well.......
I went through the accelerated process and received my IB offer two weeks ago. Mine was super early because I interned with GSAM after my sophomore year.
I went through the accelerated process and received my IB offer two weeks ago. Mine was super early because I interned with GSAM after my sophomore year.
well i guess that's it then guys. only one two of us made it...
Looks like it. Gratz to everyone with interviews. Good luck! Hopefully the rest of us will get 'em in January.
Anyone know how this process works? How quickly they extend an offer? I have a phone screen coming up on friday, not for ny though
This is my first post but I been a lurker on here for awhile.
I am from a non-target, already interviewed once my sophomore year in NYC but was not given an offer. I was encouraged to attempt again this year and am doing so.
Regarding the early application codes, what criteria does HR use to e-mail these out? I would be interested in an early-commitment program like this, as GS is my top choice, but did not receive an e-mail with a code in it. Would it be ineffective to use the accelerated process code and apply now?
Just trying to understand more about the use of accelerated app codes. Thanks.
How did everyone do?
Hi everybody!!
Did anyone do the Nov. 27th deadline? I did!!
I'm wondering when do we hear back from them...and is it by email only?
Seems like no one really has answered this question clearly. Saying you are selected for a superday in the accelerated process, is it a advantage or disadvantage?
I haven't heard back from anyone yet, and it's already early December-ish (which is when they said they would notify us if we got an interview, right?). Hence, my question above.
It might be an advantage to be selected in the accelerated process because you get the process over with already ;) :P
