Goldman SA IBD Recruiting
Hey guys,
Im currently networking/preparing for applications to open up this summer, mainly waiting on Goldman's on July 15th. The application is open until November 10th or somthing. My gpa is currently levfin team at a pension fund. Im going into my third year at a top 3 Canadian undergraduate business program. I was wondering if I should wait to apply until I complete my courses and have some more stuff to put on my resume from my interenship. HCM said they review and interview on a rolling basis usually within 2 weeks of applying. Does it get way more competative the longer the application is out? And is waiting to get my gpa from a 3.42 to a 3.5 even worth it, will it make a material difference?
Also, if anyone could shed some light on recruiting in New York at a BB IBD for SA as a Canadian, that would be appreciated.
Thanks for your input.
If you're interested in LevFin you should explore options at BAML and JPM. GS is more known for advisory. BAML and JPM have massive balance sheets and have very impressive LevFin deal flow.
The GS brand name is (typically, in my understanding) powerful for their (classic) IB team. If you have a shot with GS TMT or M&A then by all means go for it. Otherwise if you truly like LevFin go for JPM or BAML.
To answer your original question, I don't know much about Canadian schools but a 3.5 is typically the "cutoff" for "non-target". Again I don't know much about Canadian schools but I haven't heard of any being far superior than a Harvard , Princeton, or Yale - but I also live in US and work at a BB. My point being in saying that, is at some of those "target" schools kids slide by with lower GPAs.
I wasn't target and got through with a little lower.
What I would say though is (if your GPA isn't great): 1. CRUSH technicals - you have no margin of error 2. Get involved in extra circulars ASAP 3. Make sure your experiences are relevant (sounds a little late for you on that front ((not to be a dick- idk maybe you have sick internships, but if you're recruiting for SA you can't exactly get many new experiences)) hopefully this helps other monkeys)
Hope that helps!
Goldman Sachs IBD Internship (Originally Posted: 12/13/2009)
Hi guys, i graduated from a non-target state school with finance degree (3.7 gpa) and am currently looking for a job. I just checked on my school's job site, and Goldman Sachs will visit the school for IBD intern for 2010. Do you think I have a chance? I guess they will probably look for students (probably junior...) No matter what, I really like to get a job there... Thanks,
ugh. if you go to a non target, why is GS IBD there?
And no, you will probably not get hired. just look for another job. it's not like it's gs or bust
hahaha non-target but GS is recruiting there? you already graduated. sorry man no chance.
GS is prob recruiting for back office....
job tile from the school website: Goldman Sachs: 2010 Investment Banking Summer Analyst Anyway, I think I will just try. Thanks.
Try.
Dude u from Ohio State?
but best of luck with your job search.
If you enrolled in something like a one-year master's program straight out of school, would you be eligible for analyst internships the summer after you graduate with a Bachelor's but before you start the grad degree?
Try. never give up. Good luck!
always try! i saw goldman sachs application at my school and i never thought i get it. but guess what, yesturday i got an offer!

I applied online back in December. Haven't heard back yet. Should I try to reach out to hr again? Are first round interviews already out? I was thinking of maybe giving up on banking this season and applying for some easier firms like McKinsey for 2013 summer. Let me know what you think.
hahahaha

Is Networking Helpful at all for Goldman Sachs SA IB? (Originally Posted: 11/17/2016)
I am a little confused regarding whether networking is helpful for any part of the Goldman Sachs interview process including getting selected for the Hirevue assessment or getting a superday. I know the application deadline is coming up soon so I wanted to know so that I can apply and start networking.
Thanks!
Bepersistent, more broadly, networking is always helpful. At the very least, it will allow you to learn more about the IB industry. You can ask bankers why they are working at this particular bank, how the bank is different from others, etc. and use those answers to craft your interview question responses.
Not for the Hirevue. Maybe the banker can push for you post-superday, when they are making the decisions.
