Goldman Sachs Superday - AFG

Hi everyone,

I recently received an invitation from Goldman Sachs for a superday in their Jersey office for AFG, or Americas Finance Group in their investment banking division. There are a total of 8 divisions within the AFG group and they are all very different from each other, so I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to what kinds of questions I should be prepared for? I heard that it's important to keep up to date on the markets, but I'm wondering if there will be any questions on financial statement analysis, valuations, or accretion/dilution. Any insight would help, thank you very much!

Expect basic technicals but will be mostly behaviorals just like any other GS interview. Be ready to explain why Financing vs Classic. Also have a group in mind that you're interested in - LevFin is usually most in demand and Structured Finance offers one of the most technical experiences. Corporate Derivatives used to be in Securities until a couple years ago so that's the "least IBD" group. ECM and DCM are pretty self explanatory.

Assuming that you don't want to stay in Capital Markets, try to shoot for either LevFin or Structured. A couple kids did internal mobility successfully from both those groups into Classic last summer. Even if you stay on for FT in LevFin, you could get PE exits as the group does a reasonable amount of LBO modeling depending on how the markets are - one dude landed Anchorage awhile back. Also there are some pretty esoteric pods in Structured that let you think like an investor and analysts in those pods have moved into GS MBD (the private equity arm) after two years.

In general though if you have any other offers on the table, I'd go with those over Financing. Good luck!
