Goldman Sachs TA vs JPMC Analyst (Retail)

After a whole semester of career searching, I have restricted my options to the two jobs: GS Technology Analyst (NY) and JPM Chase Analyst (Columbus, OH) in retail.

Needless to say, both of these are super BO roles. Which position should I take if I eventually want to network my way into a middle office, and eventually a front-office?

Can anyone who has experience in either job give me some input on what it's really like the be working there?

*I also want to say that I always want to work in a position that involves technology.

i heard the bo to fo move is especially hard at gs

That's what I've gathered as well. But what do you think renders the transition difficult? Is it that there's a stigma to the BO that is too prevalent, even in IT? Or is it the kind of work being done in BO IT functions that are not so relevant in the FO? My plan is to do very very well in the BO that technology team that I'll be working in for 2+ years and try to ninja my way into a different unit..

i honestly would be talking out of my ass if i tried to answer that question. if you take a look at this link: http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Goldman-Sachs-RVW25820… , there are 2 comments that talk about the BO->FO transition (1 in 500 people example)

Either of these can probably get you into a top 30-50 MBA and you can move into something more FO/MO, now at JP is it more commercial lending?

I honestly would never pay to go to a 30-50 MBA in this economy. But I also don't think an MBA would really add to the path that I am pursuing - I want o get into quant finance. Unfortunately, the job at JP is actually a job at Chase - ill be a data analyst instead for the retail Sid of the business in Columbus.

After doing some research, I think the GS route would just be a lot better. The fact that JP is in Columbus seems to seal the deal for me.

Not sure why people don't just apply for FO roles... You might as well take the risk.

Hope this isnt a serious statement. Because everyone that gets a MO/BO role can just apply to FO role instead and get that right?

That's not what he's saying. He is saying that it's worth the risk, and in reality, he's right because there isn't a risk. You should apply for jobs even if you think they are a reach because there is zero downside.
