best neighborhoods of LA to live
Recently moved to LA and started a new job a few months ago. Had a temporary setup in Santa Monica but need to move. I work in the West Hollywood area and trying to figure out if i want to stay in Santa Monica or go somewhere else in LA. Right now, it's a good commute, completely opposite traffic. So i'm tempted to look in SM to keep the same setup.
being near the beach in santa monica was great, but i feel like i didn't go as often as I liked mostly because of too many tourists.
I'm interested in the following areas:
-Mid-Wilshire
-La Brea
-WeHo
-West LA
-Culver City - not 100 percent on this one
Any suggestions or comments on those? Most interested in mid-wilshire and la brea areas.
I'd definitely like to be in a neighborhood that has good restaurants, cafes and bars and just general good crowd of young professionals in their late 20s to early 30s.
If you ever have a family, I'd say BHPO in the future. Now though, I would recommend Pacific Palisades, but I personally like relatively quieter areas; you'd have to drive to SM though for nightlife.
The rule of thumb is the further you are from the beach and the further you are from a major metro city, the cheaper it will be.
But you also have to worry about your commute from work. Take a car ride to each of the places you want to go to and find the area that best fits your time, cost, and community.
If you're choosing between mid-wilshire and la brea though, personally I would lean towards mid-Wilshire, a lot more safe as long as you dont head down south of Venice blvd or around the 10fwy
Yeah the place I'm looking at in mid-wilshire is a really good deal for what I'm getting. Would you ever pick west la over mid-wilshire though? I'm thinking about that area since I'm pretty familiar with it already.
Used to live in Brea before, it was one of the nicer places I stayed at. my street back then was a little bit "too residential" but quiet and safe/clean.
That's one thing i'm worried about that it's a little bit quieter than other neighborhoods.
Most people I met in Brea were families, so if your goal is to meet your wife I am not sure if that is the right neighborhood. Or pick an area in Brea that has more singles, but I wouldn't know which one that is.
I don't know how important meeting people is for you in LA; but LA is known to be a bit more difficult in that space, doesn't matter if you are looking for a new group of friends or a girlfriend.
