Google Glass

So this thing just hit my radar. How ridiculous would it be to get one of these things. It is essentially a pretty basic HUD, but still, very cool.
$1,500 for this is steep though. Just wait until the price comes down and people are rocking this shit out at the bar. If I could get a CNBC feed to always play in my peripheral that would be awesome.
Thoughts?
This is awesome. Kind of creepy, but imagine the possibilities.
I've used Siri like once, and the things I "Google" are far too complex for one of these things to interpret.
I guess I like to think for myself most of the time, instead of asking what a fucking 'jellyfish' is, Jesus, lol.
It's cool and all, but so was the idea of 3D TV. Look how that turned out.
Better yet, if you could be the first person to shamelessly rock a pair (set? one?) ON CNBC. "TNA is that Glass you are wearing?" "Yea I am watching Bloomberg".

Dude, these glasses are going to get stolen en mass
i dont see whats the big deal
it has much potential, but it wont reach it in next several years... those voice commands are its weak link imo its not much different than go-pro camera with few more functions at the moment, and it certainly wont be able to match the picture quality...
however, im sure that it will sell great... like apple products do, there always are loads of people to buy them even though nobody needs them and they are overpriced
the real deal down the road will be powerful applications... right now, im not interested in live instagram or making my life a video thing.. i really dont care about sharing with people what i do
i just hope not to see cases of brain/eye tumour and stuff
Well they won't be releasing it to consumers for probably a couple years, for one. It's also much smaller, lighter, and more convenient than a go-pro. For the GPS alone it's a pretty sweet app. While you aren't interested in sharing your life, a lot of people are.
That said, as you mentioned, I wouldn't want the wireless that close to my body, especially my brain/eyes.
waiting for the contacts
It'll be a while but fucking awesome nevertheless: http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/bionics/augmented-reality-in-a-cont…
Maybe I'm just weird, but I really don't see a lot of use for technology like this. I feel like a lot of tech nowadays is so geared toward the "social revolution" and helping people share their moments with their "social networks". Social media, if used properly can be awesome. I use Twitter to follow news or interesting traders/investors to see what their thoughts on the market are, but so many people use it to post stupid crap like what they ate for breakfast or post vague statuses on Facebook to get likes/comments. I bet a large part of the population will buy it for those kinds of purposes once it becomes affordable and I personally just find it all so strange and somewhat narcissitic.
This should be interesting to some of you: http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/21/tech/mobile/smartphone-developments-mobil…
Looks like a glorified PDA to me... but this may change if they had more apps and stuff
