Got an offer at BB, Graduation May be Postponed
Hey everyone! Would like to ask someone who had a similar situation or would have an idea how to handle this:
Got a S&T offer to start in 2019 at a BB, they love me a lot and I love the team, signed the contract and everything.
Since I'm at a non-target school in Europe, it's much less flexible that in the US and UK. I essentially have to apply to get into a course, and since there's a LOT of people studying at the Uni, there's a chance I won't get into a course and hence my graduation (undergraduate) may be delayed (some friends had that).
I told the HR about this and that there is such risk, to which they said that it's fine. I can fly once I start to sit some exams or write my thesis. I forgot to ask them, however, what happens if I can't register for one or two mandatory ATTENDANCE courses? There's no chance I could attend them during the 2Y contract.
Just a note, I completely do not mind "freezing" the degree (it's an option in Europe) and if things go well (which I believe they will), not continue with my studies altogether, since it's a completely not-well-known Uni, I have 0 student debt and they like me on my desk.
I'm obviously reluctant to ask the HR about this. What do you think? Is it 100% MANDATORY to get a degree? Or would they be fine with some sort of a online-Bachelor's that one can do in a year? Would love to know since it's a risk I cannot quite hedge. Thanks!
Lol. The BB likely won't keep you on without a degree. Not sure if it is applicable to Europe BB but I know at my BB in the states they allow you to start during an off cycle (Again, I'm not in S&T either so I don't know how applicable that is). Talk to them that this issue might happen. If it does happen call them again and keep them updated. You can't just not get a degree and go FT.
Hey mate, thanks for your answer! Are you an analyst or also waiting for an answer? I assume you do IBD?
I'm a current analyst in a CF role. Not IB. You're best bet will likely be to continue to have an open conversation with HR and explain your situation. Definitely don't make it seem like this is something you've been hiding and want resolved last minute.
Sure, I'll try to do that. I've let them and the MD know about this risk just in case, but I'll let them know if something happens along the way.
