GPA Change by August (Summer Classes)
First of all let me start by saying thank you to everyone in this forum, I have been lurking for a while and appreciate all the information I been able to get from everyone in the forums. Im posting asking for advice on a current situation with my gpa and how it will affect my resume. I currently have a 3.8 GPA at a CC, but due to an E grade appeal not going on my favor which I take full responsibility for as I thought it would, I now have a 3.5 due to the E grade from 2015 bringing down my GPA. When I drafted my business resume for the summer applications I put my GPA as a 3.5 as I did not want to lie, but now Im wondering if I should had done something different. Im registered for classes this summer and my E grade will be an A (highly doubt I will end up with anything lower currently) by mid August (end of summer semester). My GPA by august should be a 3.87. I have already applied for multiple boutiques and BB which are a extreme reach for a CC student, and been networking to make up for the fact that I'm attending a community college. Should I put in my resume a 3.8 instead of a 3.5 since hopefully by the time I received an offer, my GPA should be updated? Should I write an email to the places Im applying explaining them the situation? Should I stop applying until my GPA situation is fixed? Should I just bite the bullet and keep applying with a 3.5 and hope my networking makes up for it? I could try explaining to the people Im networking with, why my GPA is not as high as it could be. Should I reapply once my GPA is updated? Any advice is appreciated it. (For the record realistic enough to understand that landing a good internship is an uphill battle due to my school)
Also for the record I am transferring this fall to a non-target (Rutgers Business School), but plan to postpone my graduation by a year by transferring again to a target/semi-target. I have been actively communicating with my Fall 2018 business school since the day after my orientation and have impressed them to the point that they are willing to recommend me to any program come recruiting season., I believed they said recruiting is limited, but they have a few banks that they personally recommend a few students to meet with. I also plan on applying during the spring for all diversity programs available as I missed the deadlines for the last spring semester due to me not being informed as I should had been.
Also just for the sake of not clogging the forum with questions, I will be a junior this fall semester, but since I'm extending my graduation by transferring, my graduation year will be 2021 which technically makes me a sophomore? Would this assumption be correct or will I be considered a junior when applying for sophomore diversity programs? (Hispanic, first generation, single mother, grew up poor, and with a story if it matters)
Honestly I’ve never had confirm my GPA or anything like that, so I’d just put the 3.8 on the resume since you’re not technically wrong. The resume can only be as updated as when you send it, so I’d say there’s no issue.
My concern if I do that is that if by any chance I received an offer before August (you never know) and I get asked for my transcript that they will see that my GPA on my transcript is a 3.5 and not a 3.8. Maybe im just being paranoid and thinking of all scenarios even highly unrealistic ones
I remember background checks usually being much later in the process after getting offers, so it should be fine.
If you really feel paranoid, considering adding a disclaimer like an “(expected)” next to the 3.8 or sth like that.
Interesting. Any advice on what I should do with my already submitted application? I applied with a 3.5 on them, not sure how I could changed my GPA If i already submitted them.
If you already submitted it, doubt there's much you can do there- just leave it as is for the ones you've already applied for, apply with the 3.8 for the ones you haven't applied to yet
