GPA too high for regional banks?

Is it really possible that some recruiters won't give me a second round because they think my GPA is too high, or some other reason? I only have a 3.8 and the school is a top 25, but not anywhere near the top 10...

I am not trying for IB but I am hoping for corporate banking, I've been interviewing with many regional banks about $15 Billion to $30 Billion in assets, and I can't even get a second round. Then I've interviewed with 3 of the big 4 banks, and I have 2 super day invites, and then 2 more with Deloitte Consulting and Duff and Phelps. Honestly, I thought that the regional banks would be my safety offers. Plus, I really wouldn't mind working in the international and 'corporate' groups for regionals either. Not to mention their training programs are much more extensive...

In these interviews, they do sometimes ask whom I am interviewing with and I tell them...do you suppose its a turn off when I say the big guys to the regional bankers that are interviewing me? Any advice?

To be blunt, you're probably not getting second rounds because you sound like an idiot.

Statements like this "Honestly, I thought that the regional banks would be my safety offers" make you appear to not have a clue how getting a job works.

Bigger companies have bigger analyst classes, more developed training programs and are used to transforming clueless people into productive workers. They tend to be more likely to take a chance on someone who is qualified on paper, but doesn't pull through in an interview.

You also appear to have absolutely no idea what you actually want to do.

This is all just pure conjecture though. There could be 100 other reasons why you aren't advancing, but It's almost certainly not because you're over qualified.

Side not: In what world is Texas A&M a top 25 school? Doesn't it have an acceptance rate above 65%?
