Graduate Early
Sorry for the lengthy post but my mind is buzzing right now because of a big life change and I need some insight from people who know the industry.
I am a finance student (3.85) at St. John's University in Queens. My school gave me an ultimatum of join the 5 year program or graduate a semester early. I chose to graduate early as I look to work on my graduate degree at a better business school. I am going abroad next semester and unable to intern but I am interviewing for operations internships right now at BB and Middle tier banks. I will only have one semester left on campus to wrap up my finance courses and unable to intern . I am absolutely devastated at the moment because I will not be able to spend time with friends and my lovely girlfriend but I need to start planning for my future and graduating early with a decent BS in 3.5 years is better than a crappy MBA in 5 years. (right?) I have multiple options and I wanted to ask this community what they thought the best career avenue would be. I am currently being looked at for back office roles but my goal is to work within front office at a BB.
Here are some options I am looking at
1) Look to work Spring 2021 and find a job with the rest of my class for Summer 2021 and try to do an MBA after two years of work experience.
2) Look for an MBA program at a better school to enroll in for Spring 2021. Spend the semester off working locally and studying for GMATs. I am a good test taker and believe my GPA will stay in the 3.85 range. Are there any really good graduate programs in NYC?
3) Split time studying for my GMATs and LSATs and take the best offer to go to either Business School or Law School. I heard a JD can backdoor into IB if it is from the right MBA program with the right concentration.
4) Bank on my internship giving me a full time offer (my sophomore internship in accounting said I am always welcome to come back but I am looking elsewhere for this summer) and asking the internship to take me in January of 2021.
Thanks!
