Interested in contributing to this group. I have over 10 years experience in energy derivatives brokerage/trading - futures/options/OTC. Started up new desks in NY and London. Even worked in the crude and nat gas pits (sad to see them go). So yes, a bit of an older-timer.

Now do training related to oil and gas. Happy to field questions and help if I can.

The article below highlights a trend I've been pointing out to members of our learning community who ask me about getting into commodity/energy trading. As banks exit the business, a big entry point for new folks is closing.

This consolidation has also greatly affected headcounts at brokers that used to have every bank as a customer.

This is making spots in analyst programs at pure commodity players (Trafigura, Vitol) even that much more competitive.

Hi all, just went through this group while looking for some posts on physical trading. I started few months ago as a scheduler in the intraday desk of an energy trading company in London, my desk is responsible for European power and, in this particular company, is a FO role. I want to move into trading in 2 to 3 years anyway, so any suggestions on this side is more than welcome (and am happy to share insights on how to get into scheduling if anyone is interested in power).

Thanks

For sure being a quick learner, attention to details, being able to work independently and learning from (hopefully few) mistakes. A knowledge of power market is essential as well otherwise all the terminology and the lingo could be overwhelming.

Hi ChimpingOut - send me a PM with your CV, we will be looking for new schedulers (London) in the coming months. Regarding tips, the market is not moving a lot now, especially as bonus time is soon. Recruiters works well in London, if you don't have preferences in term of location I would relocate to Switzerland.
