GRP Partners Invests in Financial Technology, Digital Content, ????

Anyone know anybody that works at GRP Partners? Do they only have offices in LA? Website is pretty sparse.

Here is their info:

GRP Partners is a venture capital firm focused on investing in financial technology, digital content and distribution, and online business consumer services. Founded in 1996, the firm has invested approximately $1.3 billion on behalf of institutional limited partners in North America and Europe. With professionals in Los Angeles and London, GRP Partners has a global perspective on serving its portfolio companies and seeking investment opportunities across all stages of investment. For more information, visit www.grpvc.com.

They have invested in a ton of companies and yet I've never heard of them before last week?

GRP is a great venture firm - among the best in LA. You can think of GRP as the "Union Square Ventures of LA". Mark Suster (one of the general partners) is a 2x entrepreneur (sold one of his companies to SalesForce), and writes a great blog over at Both Sides of the Table. Reading his blog will give you some more perspective on the firm.

Good luck getting a gig there though - it's a small group, only 2 junior guys, and dependent on personal recs.

Thanks CK. I'll check out their blog. Curious about their investment strategies? Areas of focus and their investments in general.

Here is what is on their website. Pretty impressive.

like i said like the best team in alaska

la aint knowln for vc

You are clearly misinformed at best and willfully ignorant at worst. Why the vendetta against LA and GRP?

It's not Silicon Valley, but there is definitely significant VC and startup activity. Here's a short list off the top of my head of a few VC-backed companies that came out of LA that you may have heard of: Overture (sold for $2bn), MySpace ($650m), Demand Media ($1bn IPO), DivX ($625m IPO), Cogent ($2.2bn IPO), eToys, MP3.com, NetZero, Buy.com, Hulu, among many others.

If you're a Quora member, you can see a much larger list here: http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-most-successful-consumer-technology-a…

second what CaptK says, great firm with solid investments; suster runs one of the top 5 vc blogs out there in terms of content and consistency, when i first started recruiting for vc his "this week in vc" videocasts were essential in gaining broader industry knowledge and understanding how vc's think about potential investments; i imagine you would learn a ton from working there as a junior.

if you have an in, definitely leverage.

ok, looked them up and i agree w you guys but out of curiosity, what other great LA based vc firms are there?
So you just now looked them up. Which means you were being willfully ignorant and flaming simply for the hell of it. Thanks for contributing.

Other LA VCs that are active and reputable - Rustic Canyon, Palomar, Steamboat Ventures (Disney), Greycroft.

There's also a lot of well known MM private equity, and some $1bn+ funds - Yucaipa, Gores Group, Riverside Group, Sun Capital, Levine Leichtman, Platinum Equity, Freeman Spogli, Century Park, etc
