GS Accelerated Interview Invitations
I received an invitation for an accelerated interview at Goldman Sachs. Does anybody from previous years have any insights into the process? The email says that second round interviews in New York City are going to be held next week. I tried searching and nothing relevant came to the surface beyond how interviewees are selected.
Thanks.
I'm curious -- is this for full time, or SA?
If it's SA, when did you apply? I'm really interested in this process. Thanks!
Full-Time
What division? The process will vary by group and depending on what office the position is for.
Curious as well as to which division? I applied for the ibd one last week but haven't heard back, guess this means all selections have been made?
also interested
It's for IBD.
fuck son, they must love you.
good luck, never heard of it.
When did you apply? I received an invitation to apply for accelerated process last Thursday. Haven't heard back yet.
we're desperate to fill a couple slots. good luck.
Do you know which industry groups are looking to fill slots?
Are you IBD interns from other banks? How did you get invited to this?
curious too. anyone has heard back from GS?
Anybody get invited to the in-office interviews later this week yet after their phone interview?
I believe the superday is tomorrow. If you haven't heard anything yet, sorry but you probably shouldn't be holding your breath.
How did you get invited to this?
what time is your interview scheduled for and when did you get the call backs for the second round?
I had my first round phone interview on Monday afternoon. I haven't heard anything back yet, so I guess it sucks to be me haha. Must have been right afterwards or this morning.

"Congratulations! You have been selected for a first round phone interview with the Goldman, Sachs & Co. Investment Banking Division. We will be reaching out to you in the next day or two to schedule your interview.
Please let us know if you have any questions or updates to your offer status.
Sincerely, Investment Banking Recruiting Team"
If anybody's gone through this before, any words of advice? Great - thanks!
Sent you a PM.
is this for FT or SA?
Is this for FT or SA?
wow, I guess we posted the same thing at the same time
FT
hahaha. weirdness.
Did you have to apply online? I haven't even applied yet.
Went through this last year... Went through a phone interview and then two rounds of interviews at their offices in NYC. Got dinged after the final round only to find out from a friend who works there that they were only interviewing people to put on hold in case any of their SA's backed out.
Maybe its different this year, but thats the way it was last year.
That's not true, GS hired people through accelerated interviews last year.
how did they get your name?
People recommending you, current interns putting your resume forward, perhaps you applied in the past etc
tothedeath:
Were you in NY for a meet n greet around end of July early Aug with about 30 people and that email is the follow up for IBD human capital management?
Sent you a PM.
can someone please explain the accelerated interview process (interviewing after a SA stint, but before school starts in the fall for FT)? how do you get one?

Does anyone know the time line of these thing. Heard this year's first round interview were last week. What are next steps?
what were the 2 interviews like?
final rounds were last week
Can confirm some interviews happened already for GS accelerated interviews... email was sent to ppl that was recommended / applied during SA...
accelerated interviews were last week. not sure if they are still going on, but don't think so. no word yet on decisions (for me, at least)...
Wait my question is... why is GS sending these e-mails out before SA's even find out whether or not they have an offer???
Not sure, but my guess is so they have a pool of candidates ready to go in case they can't fill all the slots with SA's (ie - some SA's may not accept an offer, or may not get offers). Seems like they want to get a head start on the other banks to get the people they want??
if you are a summer at a competing BB, how do you get invited to be part of the accelerated process?
I had the same question. Someone who had similar experience please speak up?

If you guys had the option to do the accelerated superday or the regular one in the spring, which would you pick? Essentially, which one gives you a better shot.
FYI, MS is having their superday for accelerated interviews today (for their eight "core" schools only). They are unlikely to have formal full-time recruiting.

Anyone know when this year's goldman accelerated application results/notifications will be out? Not for tech and strats but for everything else that had the deadline for october 19th. I know tech and strats interviews have been given out and people were notified.
Curious too...I know tech has their superday in NY this week
Anyone hear back yet?
Just heard back from the Controllers division for an interview. Never applied to that division- no news on any others.
Is that for NYC? Has anyone heard back from Boston, CA, etc?

Did you hear back from the phone interview so far? controllers division I meant.
just accepted a securities internship offer. I'm a target sophomore. pretty stoked
bypassed any phone or primary interviews and just got invited to a superday in the jersey city office. i applied on the 19th, target junior, IBD
Forgot to mention, the superday is on Dec 10. Anyone else going?
@MacMars22 Have you heard back from them after the phone interview?? Or anyone else that had the phone interview, have you guys heard back?
Hi, I did the phone interview with controller division. Are you target school?
not sure if there is more than one superday, but I can confirm that there was one today for accelerated candidates
GS accelerated for December (Originally Posted: 12/01/2010)
Anyone who apply for the GS accelerated process 3(find out about interviews early Dec and interview mid Dec) hear back from them yet? Specifically for securities and the financing group?
They didn't send me an email, but I logged in and found out the decision
By decision do you mean acceptance? On mine 3 of the positions say "application received", and one says "application under review." At this point I feel like "application received" means denied?
double post
it says received for me too not denied like my aps for last year soo...
I mean that my applications from last year were already rejected a long time ago My applications from this year have had the status "application received" since I have applied and they are still that way The accelerated process says it sends out interview invites in the beginning of December... so I was just wondering if anybody else has received an invite so I can access if I did not get an interview invite for this round
If you don't get an interview through the accelerated process then you are not placed in the regular pool.
I am fairly certain if you are NOT invited to interview, you CAN go to the regular pool in the spring. However, if you ARE invited to interview but are NOT given the offer, you CANNOT reapply in the spring. Sorry about the caps placement, wanted to make it clear...
I am fairly certain if you are NOT invited to interview, you CAN go to the regular pool in the spring. This is true and I have confirmed with HR
However, if you ARE invited to interview but are NOT given the offer, you CANNOT reapply in the spring. Sorry about the caps placement, wanted to make it clear... Not so sure about this... Some of my friends are on "hold" from their accelerated interviews meaning that they've looked at you, ur good enough but they aren't sure if they want you until they look at later accelerated candidates/regular candidates
Right, if you're on hold, that's different. Sorry. I meant if you are outright rejected after your superday, you cannot reapply.
.
wait morgan does accelerated too?
A posse, when'd you hear back for ms? Will you be at the early superday this Friday?
.
I heard from an alum you should expect a response around this friday or next monday
anyone or anyone hear of anyone getting it yet?
i know some of the spring program kids have already gotten calls
Nothing yet, at this point. Still wondering if they are planning to interview anyone in late December ... it is approaching Christmas and many people should be taking days off, I assume. Maybe we will be interviewed in Jan?
Application status still shows: Application Received.
ambition 56, good luck with your finals! I finished my first one and three more to come.
maybe it is just a case that we are not get invited. historically, GS interviews potential candidates the week before Christmas.
I see. Let's wait for a few days more since the email I got from HCM on Dec 2 said we could be contacted by mid-dec the latest. Anyway, I am from a non-target and applied for GSAM and IBD. I wouldn't be too disappointed if not interviewed during Dec.
Freaked out a bit after I got a superday invite for IMD. I listed it as my second choice and was a bit bummed that that's what they chose me for, so Friday I was a bit downcast. I ran into a senior who summered there both sophomore and junior years and got her FT offer in IBD, so I asked her what the different statuses online meant. According to her, when you see "Application received" it means they've accepted it into the database but they have yet to pull it to look over it. "Application Under Review" means they've done exactly that and are in the process of evaluating your candidacy.
See below, pasted it from my page on their careers portal.
2011: Americas; New York; IBD; Summer Analyst Application received 2011: EMEA; London; IBD; Summer Analyst Application Under Review 2011: Americas; New York; IMD; Summer Analyst Interview scheduled 2011: Americas; Philadelphia; IMD; Summer Analyst Application received
hey when did you submit your apps? cause mine still all says app received
Congratulations and Good luck with your Superday! Thanks a lot for explaining what the different statuses meant.
when did they call you to schedule your interview? is this for accelerated process 3(mid december)? When is the super day? congrats?
.
Thanks. Very helpful.
P.S. I am in New York, too. :)
TYVM. Got my fingers crossed for monday even though I'm swamped with all these finals I would think they would give higher priority to the study abroad kids to get their interviews done ASAP because they won't be here next semester...
.
A Posse Ad Esse, I am in a non-target in New York. School is in downtown. If you can take a guess... Finished my last mid-term last Wednesday, first final last Thursday. I will have a final presentation on Monday, two cumulative exams on Wednesday and Thursday and one more cumulative next Monday.
Good luck with all your finals and interviews! :)
3 finals this week interview if i get lucky and 2 cake finals the week after I guess I have it easy
.
BTW, what is everybody's app status
all of mine say app received
ps, does anybody know anything about interview date for GIR?
to make you feel better--all of mine are app received :-)
but that means no additional stress during finals if we are not selected for this superday
yea mine says all received as well =/
fingers still crossed for tomorrow morning
.
hmm I guess we didn't make it... so it's an e-mail and not a call?
anyone hear back?
.
From what everyone said, then superday is going to be friday at the latest. So shouldn't we all expect to hear by Wednesday?
i've lost all hope already people have heard back last thursday and friday i dont think they would reach out to us 2 days before the interview
damn didn't know people heard back last thursday and friday already. I guess hope is gone!
Nope. I think they're still making decisions up until the 17th. Still hope for people!
Hi HarvardOrBust, how do you know?
this is false... seeing as the superday is on the 16th
This is for study abroad accelerated process. Got an email saying they'll contact candidates by the 17th the latest. Very possible to have a superday next week, I think.
oh okay I don't think the accelerated process and the study abroad are in the same pool I've had friends who have tried to reschedule due to finals but weren't able to
for those of you who haven't heard back for AP3 yet, does it say as your status on the recruiting website "application received" instead of "application under review"?
I dont think app status matters. i got a phone interview in hk office but status still says app received.
.
got phone interview for HK, they notified me one day before the interview, wtf??
"For the AP3 deadline, I believe they're still determining how many offers the earlier candidates will receive, and based off that they may invite kids in for the week before Christmas."
Wait... really? how do you know this? so there might be a slight glimmer of hope?
.
nay, there is no hope. just got an email from HR saying at this point, all the AP invitations have been sent out and my application will be considered in the normal recruiting time line
wait... so if today's applicants were extremely terrible and they don't hand out that many offers... us non AP3 hear backs still have a slight slight glimmer of pathetic hope?
that makes me hopeful
.
so this wasn't the superday huh? that makes me feel even worse... if so many people got selected, and I didn't that means I'm not near the top of the pool.. this is super disappointing
.
A Posse, did you end up getting the MS IB offer as well?
wow how did you get that many offers so soon? Are you doing the study abroad deadline? or are there other accelerated processes other than just at goldman
.
and besides GS, I haven't heard anything about how to apply for any of these accelerated processes... or is it more of a they select you kinda thing PS. check your inbox
Just got a status change from Application Submitted to Application Under Review. Wtf? This lack of communication is seriously frustrating.
Application Submitted simply means the computerized system is confirming successful receipt of your app. Under Review means someone has pulled it to look over it. It doesn't guarantee anything, nor does it necessarily reflect an immediate change. It may have been from before.
At this point, if they're pulling it, chances are it's for normal timeframe recruiting, not accelerated.

Was it for all divisions?
What was the Superday Like?
Thanks
Well, the interviewer indicated that if we were to be invited for next steps, it'd be later this week. Probably toast.
There is an "Accelerated SA" process now?
is this for students studying abroad in the spring or all students?
how absurd, i feel bad for these kids
You interview and then you wait. Its very stressful. A bunch of college students sitting in the Goldman lobby with their phones in their hands. Goldman calls you to say either you are moving on to 2nd round or they ding you. So sad to see other students leave with their dreams crushed.
Couldn't possibly see why, it's a great opportunity. It is for all students invited to apply and subsequently selected for the superday.
Yeah, screening interviews in the morning, wait around for hours, call backs, more interviews in afternoon. Decision within a week.
Thanks for the input.
In response to the first reply, Goldman has had an accelerated process for SA in previous years as well. There was an accelerated process for anyone and a studying abroad accelerated process. Our school (a semi-target) was given the option to apply to the process.
For other posters, what was the first half of the day like? Type of questions, interview structure? What was the second half like? Type of questions, interview structure?
Thanks for the help.
Good luck - hope you are all done with this crap before Thanksgiving!
Anybody heard back yet for the second round of the accelerated process yet?
^^^ Deadline isn't till the 27th
Hi everybody!!
This is my very first post on WSO! :)
Did anyone do the Nov. 27th deadline? I did!!
I'm wondering when do we hear back from them...and is it by email only?
If you guys had the option to do the accelerated superday or the regular one in the spring, which would you pick? Essentially, which one gives you a better shot.
for those of you who did the accelerated superday, how long was it until you heard back? Does not getting a call that night/the next morning mean you're dinged?
Naw, still waiting too. Apparently for the accelerated process for every bank they don't feel as though they need to rush a decision b/c they aren't competing against other banks as much. It legitimately could be a full week until you get a call back one way or the other.
ah okay this is slightly positive news. I talked to two other people who still haven't heard back yet as well. I was just confused because I was under the impressive at GS lets you know immediately if you get it or not. I guess we'll know soon either way though
Has anyone heard back yet?
nope, and the few people I knew there haven't heard back yet either. Could it be possible that they haven't given out any responses yet..?
That's what I'm assuming, we were told we'd know by Monday or Tuesday by an HR representative before our second round interviewing began. I guess either later this evening or tomorrow will be when responses are released. Post if you hear anything.
Eh, I don't have high hopes at this point regardless. But best of luck!
Haven't heard back yet either. BoA took a solid 5 days to get back to us after the superday, so I could see us hearing back tmrw.
My friend heard back today, they have definitely at least started giving out offers.
Still nothing? In the event that they don't call do, should we call HR?
i just got the call, no offer. & also no feedback. sigh. good luck to you all!
Huh, interesting. So did they outright reject you or basically say that you're offer is pending depending on other candidates?
I'm not really sure. They said they couldn't extend me an offer "at this time", and then they thanked me for coming up. I think it's someone different for sophomores though because they take like 0 or 1 out of the 4 to 5 people they flew out.
Were you going for IBD or a different division? Also, what about your friend who you said got the offer? Do you think they're going to do calls for the juniors tomorrow?
well,I don't feel so bad, good luck to you all.
i was doing IBD. She was a sophomore as well. I have no idea when they're doing calls, I just know that in the past offers come early and rejections come later. I would just stay patient and hope for the best, but don't expect anything. best of luck to you all

no nothing yet,, kinda worried had the phone interview friday
anyone???? fukin didnt get it probably.
Definitely. From my understanding, GS isn't really doing full-time on campus recruiting. They warned me to apply to not only them, but to other bulge brackets during the accelerated processes because there would be very little chance of landing a spot during on campus recruiting at a bulge bracket this summer regardless of your qualifications. Even the accelerated interview offers at GS were contingent on offer acceptances from their existing summer analyst classes.

decisions for the accelerated process occur on a rolling basis. If your experience matches an available opportunity, recruiters will be in touch.
how do u know that? are u already working or are u one of us
which round did you apply for the one with early december interview notifications and mid december interviews?
yea is that the one you applied for?
Has anyone heard anything yet?
So far I've only received an email from HCM that "to the extent there is interest in your candidancy, you will be contacted in Mid-Dec, the lastest."
It seems not everyone who applied for SAP3 received such an email.
I also heard that if GS doesn't contact you by 12/15, your application will be moved to the regular round. Can you confirm?
It didn't say 12/15, only said Mid-Dec. Yes, you will be considered for Jan/ Feb interviews, which was also said in the email I received from Goldman.
Did anyone hear back yet?
they already did super days if you didnt hear back your app will be considered for normal recruitment
including the one from their last deadline (nov 28)? I assumed they'd be contacting around dec 15-17 regarding the decision. I didn't think they'd be able to hold the last super day that fast
yea offers have already been handed out lol(i didnt get an itnerview)
.
Anyone know if it's the same timeline for West Coast offices? I applied in response to their accelerated process but haven't heard anything back yet. In all likelihood, I'm screwed, but I was hoping to know with certainty.
