GS ECM vs HL M&A for VC?

GS ECM vs Houlihan Lokey M&A for VC? Both roles are in London. Dont mind either one just want the one that will give me the best shot to break into VC, preferably in US rather than UK.

GS. The path to VC is much more unclear (i.e., banking experience isn't always good), so go with the brand.

This is spot on.

Also, know that GS has a very well established system where if you spend 2 years in one part of the bank (assuming FO) you can easily switch to another. i'd utilize this and switch to IBD after 2 years and your VC opps will be buttloads better than if you went with HL M&A and the extra 2 years are definitely worth it.

Know a girl who spent two years in GS' PEG, moved over to banking (fortunate enough to get into TMT) and only lost one year on the calendar, wound up in the megafund recruiting process for second years, and received an offer from TPG to start that summer.

A lot of banks preach mobility, but GS actually follows through on it. Now her case is admittedly an exception, not the norm (she had all kinds of exposure to the PE space through her first role, must've networked like a legend to get the group she got when she switched divisions, and enjoyed the benefits of 'right place, right time'), but it does happen.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

never really thought about vc much, but just to weigh in on a different side, one potential pro to HL M&A is that you learn, in a lot more detail, how to value a company and analyze transactions (well, one transaction - a merger). that could potentially be very useful in vc, especially if it's more of the late-stage variety. although, ECM could also lend a hand to late-stage vc.
Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.

Remember, once you're inside you're on your own. Oh, you mean I can't count on you? No. Good!

give me monkey shit, i dnt care (for obvious reasons) but you really dont deserve a spot at GS if you are asking this question. shame on you. thats like saying should i fuck kate upton anally or fuck a 7/10 girl in the pussy? okay sure with kate upton you're not exactly getting the pussy (M&A), but its STILL FUCKING KATE UPTON. (i was watching kate upton on tv so sorry for the shitty analogy haha)

I don't throw darts at a board. I bet on sure things. Read Sun-tzu, The Art of War. Every battle is won before it is ever fought- GG
