IMD at Goldman Sachs
I currently have an application submitted to the 2018 Full-Time Analyst program at GSAM in Chicago. I've visited the office, met with some people, and feeling excited to see where it goes. Does anyone who's been through the process care to share their experience? How long was the process? Timeline? Behavioral vs. Technical? Anything you can share would be appreciated. Hoping to hear from someone in the coming months regarding my application.
..
On the application it doesn't go into specific groups but it got as specific as Asset Management and Location - Chicago.
First round will be a hirevue or phone call. Hirevue questions are all behavioral.

DOF2022, bummer your thread hasn't had a response yet. Sometimes bots are smarter than humans anyways:

Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Well, i would know all about the EU, current situation, brexit and potential pros and cons, etc. Can you be more specific in terms of assets looked at? Or is there a securities split to know the types of assets to help steer you? To quote jerry maguire, Little more info would help me help you
GS IMD - Is this possible? (Originally Posted: 08/26/2015)
Currently in a BO role at GS. Trying to break into the Investment Management Division (IMD). Below is the job description of the open position. A few questions...
Can anyone explain what kind of role this may be? (i.e. what kind of work would I potentially be doing?)
Is this role considered MO or FO?
Would it be difficult to break in from BO?
Would appreciate the input.
Thanks!
Responsibilities: • Assist with the creation, drafting and editing of product profiles, pitch books and other marketing materials focused on AIMS services, products and performance • Work closely with senior Client Portfolio Solutions team members to prepare materials for meetings with prospects and clients • Compile analysis and custom reporting for some of the group’s largest clients • Coordination and compilation of ongoing client deliverables and communications • General project management
Basic Qualifications • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills • Strong organizational skills to oversee production of a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes, often including multiple simultaneous projects • Attention to detail – proven experience of delivering high levels of accuracy • Knowledge and understanding of Excel, PowerPoint and Word and adaptability to other software products • Candidate must be a team player and self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to take on more responsibility
This definitely sounds like FO. I'm also at GS in a MO function (Risk) and it seems internal transfer is near impossible. I'm planning on taking my GMAT and then MBA in order to break into the FO on an Associate level.
From MO at GS, I'd say it's more than doable than BO. We work with risk all the time. That being said, there are certain soft skills needed to be in a client facing sales role- make sure you've got that, because you're going to initially come off as BO (not hard in IMD, just not as easy as MO). And internal transfer is more than possible. My group sent 3 to IBD and 1 to PE, and I'm not even in IBD. Risk in my office sends people to IBD and Lev Fin a lot as well- they just have to really want it. And come with leverage, like another offer.
Appreciate the responses! In regards to the kind of role this may be, what kind of technical skills, if any, will this position require? Market knowledge? Financial modeling?
Any idea?
can anyone else provide any input?
I think it's FO
From an old GS MD in PWM, this role will require you to show the following skills: 1) know Powerpoint really well, and be able to use it proficiently 2) know how to operate excel, and get the appropriate data out, produce charts, graphs for the presentations 3) be able to operate both of those under tight dead lines, make changes on the fly, and gets books produced 4) good analytical skills to be able to think about the client's needs and how best to present GS solutions to them 5) be a good communicator who knows how to explain GS products and solutions, based on the client's needs
Hope that helps. This is a good starting front office job.
I would try to network around the firm, and see who is doing this job right now, analysts, associates involved and ask them for a coffee. Internally sending in resumes is never as useful as knowing who's hiring and being close to them.
GS IMD Regional Offices (Originally Posted: 12/13/2017)
I applied to GS IMD in Philadelphia and have yet to receive any notifications. Does anybody know when the process begins for GS Regional Offices and how competitive it is for sophomores?

Opinions on GS IMD for a Soph? (Originally Posted: 07/08/2018)
Currently a rising soph at a semi target in the west coast. Interning this summer at a credit fund in NY. For a soph internship, how is GS PWM and GSAM if my ultimate goal is to get a junior ibd oppurtunity at BB/EB? Would it look weird going from a fund to a pwm like place or will the Goldman name hold some value for junior recruiting?
Hi ballin3201, the silence is deafening, sorry about that.... Any of the threads below helpful?

How difficult is it to break into to GS IMD coming from BO? (This will be a internal move)
