GS IMD PWM Analyst

Hi guys. First post here. A recruiter reached out to me for a phone interview yesterday via email about a PWM Analyst position that I applied for online.

What's a bit surprising to me is that they contacted me despite my overall profile being a bit weak. 3.45 GPA, Finance undergrad from a small state school, no extracurriculars, currently 9 months experience in corp fin as an analyst monkey for a privately held mid-sized company, and prior to that I was in sales for 3 years while in school.

I don't want to sound like I'm selling myself short, but maybe I'm overestimating this specific position and maybe it's not as fancy as I think? It's just whenever I see GS's name, I automatically think top school, previous intern exp, etc. (maybe it's because of all the threads I read about being in BB IB)

Is my situation uncommon? Do recruiters just send mass emails out to all applicants for positions like this and then filter them out later?
