GS Singapore vs. DB London
Thank you so much guys.
I just want to know if i replace MS HK with a commdities principal investment position at GS FICC Singapore (SA), would any of you change your suggestion of taking DB London without a doubt? I thought GS buyside position will provide me a great experience and exit opp, so I am planning to take this SA and delay DB for one year, would that be possible? or i am wasting my time...Please tell me DB is good enough or GS is worth to take the risk and wait for one year...
ORIGINAL POST
I was offered by DB in London IBD (FT) last month, and few days ago I received an offer from MS HK IBD, but it is a SA position. Regardless of FT/SA and industry group, how do i choice between them? As I am from Asian, i want some international experiences at the begining of my career, so i think DB is better to that extent. Pls correct me if i was wrong.
On the other hand, I think MS is so strong in asia, that i will be regretful if i give up this offer. How would everyone compare with the experiences between DB London and MS HK? How about their exit opps (PE/MBA)?
Any comments and thoughts appreciated.
OF COURSE you go for a job, not a CHANCE for a job.
take DB and your life is smooth sailing. who knows what will happen to the markets or if you will get another FT
You should go for DB london
Definitely go for DB London, they have very strong operations there from what I've heard. Taking the FT offer would be wiser than taking the SA offer since SA doesn't guarantee a FT offer. Congrats!
DB London has a great reputation and lots of dealflow. This is a no-brainer.
Great program, great reputation, plus London is great.
Thank you so much guys.

Is this with GS AssetCo? If so i would definately take that - strong team.
This is a no brainer. DB London has enormous dealflow. Nothing in SG can compare. I'd probably take MS IBD HK, as that is a real powerhouse. The only thing holding me back would be whether London enters into a real mess while Asia continues to power on.
theres a huge commodities bubble right now and once china announces they didnt grow as expected and will decrease future expenditures on metals expect prices to drop 30-50%
This isn't just about a commodities boom. It's about some 20% of the world's population in the region going from poverty to middle-class in the next 4 decades.
Ficcster: yes, it is the GS Commodities Assetco Team. I would be very appreciated if you can give me some insights about why you will take that over other options.
I think I will place DB LONDON over MS HK, for (1) i am Asian and international exposure will add a great value to my career. (2) DB is a full-time job.
Regarding GS GCPI, I will probably take that in summer for (1) it is a principal investing position rather than IBD. My sense is IBD activities may slow globally for the next few years. Also, entry level investment banking positions are often more about processing than thinking or making decisions, whereas principal investment roles always involve those two elements from the start (2)Goldman is an excellent firm, and one less impacted by the volatility in credit markets than others so far. DB has taken some big hits and may reduce staff in the coming 1-2 years. (3) After a summer at Goldman, besides having an opportunity to get to know GS better and to get a job offer there, the experience should enhance his credentials in seeking a full-time job.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
Bump...I still need some insights, thanks
Not much to add, just another vote...
Go for DB London. Good firm, good city, and it's a real job.
You don't need more insight; you're just insecure about whichever choice you made and are trying to validate it via this forum. If you really had offers, they would have definitely expired by now, so your decision is already made.
b2, my situation is little bit different, but anyway thanks a lot! This discuss is over. Thank you all guys.
go for DB London. anything in singapore is a bitch in terms of workload. the local culture is crazy.
blueofspirit,
what sup with the local culture is crazy? I've accepted an offer for MS SG for summer analyst. Tell me more.
Longer hours than anywhere else. In general, Asia has longer hours, followed by New York, followed by London.
Fewer vacations too.
And worse climate.
Like what transatlantic said, longer hours.
Don't get me wrong, SG is a great place, it's just all the SGians i've known are incredibly hard working, and as a result your summer's going to be more intense than say, London or NYC in terms of actually doing stuff.
Good for learning, bad for slack weekends sipping martinis.
