GS/MS rivalry and Citi/JPM/BofA
What's up with the rivalry between these banks? is it an american thing? I don't see as much between the European shops.
Personally I see all of the above as equal.

GS/MS = The last of the 'pure-play' bulge bracket investment banks (but even then, they aren't exactly pure-play as was the case prior to filing for bank holding status).
BAML/JPM/Citi = dominant american 'universal' bulge bracket banks. Being that these firms offer financial service ranging from retail banking to investment banking, these firms have large balance sheets which help them compete with each other as "one stop shopping" financial institutions for clients.
Is it also possible that some of the rivalry between Citi and JPM is ingrained in the culture created by the stressed relationship between Sandy Weil and Jamie Dimon? Nature of the business aside, that's the first place my mind runs when hearing of rivalries...
CS > BofA & Citi combined.
After GS and MS, all of the bulges are more or less in the same league. And the gap between GS/MS and the other BB's aren't what people on WSO seem to think. GS, MS, JPM, BAML, BarCap, CS, Citi, DB, UBS...they are all great places to do banking. Don't be a tool.
Agreed youngblood, but if your going to list out the BBs, we can't omit Barcap.
I just listed a few quickly as I typed, not because of any judgement or ranking. BarCap is a great bulge bracket, that's for sure.
dont think there is too much of a rivery between GS and MS, GS is clearly ahead. I would say MS now days pretty much close to JPM, atleast this is how it is view in london.
