hacking the cover letter
Struggling with cover letters.
It seems each one needs to be re-written for each new job application, and it's inefficient.
Is there a faster way to do this / some format I can follow repeatedly?
I had previously been advised to use the following format:
Sentences:
1) sentence 1: what you are applying for, and who referred you (read: context)
2) sentence 2: what's in it for them :
3) sentence 3: personal qualifications
4) sentence 4: closing / ask / when to follow up
Executed as follows:
Dear X,
I am referred to you by John Macolm, who referred me to the principal role for which you've been recruiting.
I previously worked in a similar role, and generated over $x in investment returns.
I bring over 11 years of experience to this role, at such top groups as Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
Might you be free for a follow-up call this coming week?
Name
But is this really persuasive?
Is this really the best way to write a CV?
