Had a shit fall 20 semester
So I was a junior last year, and after losing my internship to covid I was basically just super depressed and didn’t give a shit about school all semester. Ended with a 2.5 for the Fall 20 semester, no pass fail option at my school unfortunately. It took my gpa all the way down to a 3.2. So I’ve recovered and got a 3.6 last semester, but it’s still been beyond brutal with such a bad gpa to even land mid level finance internship interviews (valuation etc) what do you guys think about taking an extra semester to retake the classes I fucked up on? Would that look bad on my resume? Or is there anything else I can do? Am I overreacting about having a 3.2 going into my senior year? Any advice is appreciated
What are you doing this summer?
I’m at a boutique investment bank, they do deals from 50M on the small end to 1B on the high end. This was the internship I got for my sophomore year.
I’m also gonna do real estate debt brokerage for like class B and C properties in the second half of the summer.
The IB gig sounds good. Won't you make a bigger impact to them for a prospective FT offer if you stay in IB the whole summer? This is probably your best chance during the next year to prove yourself as your GPA won't really open doors.
The issue is, they don’t hire undergrads. They do the internship to help kids learn and do some of their grunt work, but they never fire them out of college lol. So it’s not an option, that would definitely be my first choice otherwise.
