Hard time finding my first job
I Graduated from a strong school in Southern California with good grades but I am having a hard time finding a place to work. I graduated in the summer so I got a late start on the job market and have only been searching for a month. Now I am reaching out to alumni to talk over the phone or in-person and so far have gotten 25 meetings in the last 2 weeks.
I guess my question is if there is a more efficient way to get a job and is what I'm doing good enough or am I just wasting my time? Also, am I becoming a less suitable candidate by being unemployed?
This industry is all about networking, so you are doing the right thing there. True that being unemployed looks a bit worse, so it may be worth finding anything to put on your resume that relates to real estate. Also, should do some modelling courses in the evenings to start prepping and demonstrate a commitment to learning this business.
But honestly, this whole real estate industry is about hustle and grind, so you getting meetings with all of these people is great training in and of itself. When you are young, most just want to see a passion for the industry, a hunger and willingness to learn, and a never say die attitude. Considering your ability to get that many meetings that quickly, you should look into brokerage shops. Lower barrier to entry than the principal side, and so long as you get to work on the types of properties you are interested, you will gain a valuable skillset, and an even more valuable network.
Just hustle, show passion, and eventually something will stick. I job hunted for 2+ years before landing a great role in the industry, and the people I met during that grind are my best client.
That's reassuring, I've been lazy about going through the adventures in CRE website but I heard its really good for modeling experience
