Harvard or Princeton?

Hello,

I remember in Kindergarten when my teacher went around asking every person in the class "what do you want to be when you're older?," I would snicker silently as future members of the middle class said they WANTED to be something other than an investment banker. When my teacher got around to me, I would answer "I want to be Lloyd's Bitch." Lloyd may not have been the Lloyd we have grown to love today, but I just knew.

All jokes aside, I just got off the waitlist at Princeton and was wondering which one I should choose for IB. Both cost essentially the same. Which would you choose? Harvard is more prestigious? Also, which is more prestigious--final clubs or the best eating clubs? I really am confused and am worried the wrong choice would put my future in jeopardy.

Where do you think you'd thrive more? Where you'd get better grades, get better exposure to the skills you think would be useful, where you think you'd be more engaged socially to benefit from networking both during college and in the years beyond? Because all of that's going to have a much larger impact on your career than whether you choose either of these schools above the other.

I turned down both Harvard and Princeton for another peer school back in my day. My rationale was that Princeton seemed claustrophobic in suburbia and I didn't have a good impression of the social culture from friends who were already there. I was close to going to Harvard - I liked that it was in a city and the culture was closer to what I was looking for.

The reality is that there are a lot of people who have careers in finance from both Princeton and Harvard. Where I interned, Princeton had a much stronger alumni base. You're 17 or 18 though, so even if you want to work in finance you could completely change your view over the next four years.

tl;dr: the differences between the outcomes for the average student at each school is way smaller than the difference that will be there for you personally. Figure out what type of environment will make you do well.
