Has anyone had to decide between very unrelated career paths (and it worked out)?
A year out from undergrad and I'm have zero clue what I want to move into next. In university I thought I wanted to be a quant but after getting wrecked in some sample math classes (my major was accounting) I stuck with a general financial services job (have to be vague but basically it gives me some mild fixed income experience). Now, I don't know if I should try to claw my way into a lower end CS/Math graduate program and try to squeeze into a somewhat-quantitative role (I don't need to be a Jane Street $300k quant, I just want to do more than Excel crunching), or go a totally different route involving more soft skills like corporate banking or even sales (or try to get into trading in order to later do sales).
Don't know if I should try and improve my quantitative skills which I kinda lack, or go by my supposed strength of good interpersonal skills (which is impossible to prove until I get onto the job). Anyone took a wild path and ended up picking the job they're really happy with?
I still remember looking stupid in an econ class because I didn't think you could divide by 0. It's what persuaded me not to do an Econ Phd. Then I wanted to do consulting, ended up falling into real estate, and have been pretty happy with the results.
You can't divide by 0, that would be undefined no?
That’s what I said too
