Has anyone worked as a freelance Financial Planner in their spare time?
When I finish school I was planning on doing a little part time work serving as a financial planner and as an accountant doing 20-30 hours a month so I can use my my apartment etc. as a tax write off. Has anyone on this board done this to make a little extra spare cash? What were your experiences? How long did it take you to get to something around 4-6 clients per month. Thanks!
There are a variety of regulations associated with providing individuals with financial advice...make sure you don't break the law...
Indeed. I definitely plan on being fee-only and receiving certifications from two Financial Planner associations.
Accounting and bookkeeping is one thing, financial planning is another. You can provide bookkeeping and accounting services relatively easily. Don't claim your a CPA though. Financial planning is more difficult to do since you usually will need to satisy a bunch of regulations, depending on your state.

Oh, I would never claim that I was a CPA. I was planning on doing quickbooks work for all of my artists friends in SF. Easy work.. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I know someone in undergrad who started her own QB business on the side. Took her only a few months to get a steady clientele (4-6). Then again, she used her husband's IT business to hep her get the clients....
