Hate banking but no luck with exits: what do I do
I'm currently a third-year IBD analyst in London that has been recruiting for buy-side pretty much since the day I started.
I come from a low-tier investment bank where I've completed a decent amount of ECM transactions but our M&A deal flow is very weak. In the three years I've been here, I've not completed any M&A deals.
I think the low deal flow alongside coming from a low-ranked bank has made it pretty impossible for me to recruit and I'm not sure what to do.
I hate IBD and want to leave asap but every buy-side opportunity I apply for rejects me. I've tried lateralling over to larger banks but they all say the same thing 'you do not have any sell-side M&A experience so you're not the right fit'. So it seems lateralling is also out of question.
I hate my role and want to exit asap to buy-side but it appears I'm stuck.
