Yes but it was inevitably going to happen to me at one point or another. I just gave them what they came looking for and didn't have means to defend myself, wasn't worth putting my buddy who I was with at risk even though he wanted to fight. I wasn't too smart back then to say the least. They were pretty nice about it lol, didn't take my phone or wallet or anything--they knew what they were looking for, I never found out who the rat was. Also, my and my parents' cars have been broken into before by addicts who frequented a spot near our house. Usually they just take coins, once they took a GPS and tried to take my radio but only ended up fucking it up. However, crime has improved a lot, especially in my old town and the surrounding ones. It isn't the same place I grew up in really--while crime got better, the town has lost its old attitude and is becoming a bedroom community.

Dayman?

Surprisingly yes, was on the Upper west side early morning heading to the gym and 3 people (prob ages 17-21) came from behind and shoved me to the ground and started kicking the shit out of me. All they got was my phone cause a stranger with a dog was walking towards central park and that dog was HUGE, prob scared the shit out of them.

Will be completely honest, always thought I'd fight back if it happened but I stopped myself since I thought I saw one pull out a knife. Honestly not worth getting hurt like that for my phone (was also fortunate enough to have insurance so only had to pay back a small deductible for a new phone).

House was broken into by 2 guys while me and my mum were still inside. Luckily they just pretended to be the police and ran away but still wary of staying home alone by myself now.

My friend's uni house was broken into while she was alone, the guy threatened her with a knife, tied her to a chair and locked her a cupboard. Then took all the valuables and credit cards. Terrifying...

Yes, in Austin, when I was 22. Though not exactly mugged...

I left a bar just before closing and a guy came up and said he was a plainsclothes officer and that I looked underage so he needed to see my ID. As soon as I took my wallet out he grabbed it and ran.

I kind of just stood there dumbfounded before calling the actual police and reporting it, at which point they showed up and accused me of trying to buy drugs from the guy and then calling them on a drug deal gone wrong... only time I’ve ever called the cops and it definitely didn’t give me faith in the boys in blue

The first time I had an attempted mugging was in Spain and the guy grabbed my throat from behind, but he didn't have any weapon and I just said "Parlez-vou Francais?" and it confused him greatly and I just ran off.

The second time someone attempted to rob me was in NYC on 6th street. I was hammered and just got a sub from Sunny & Annie's and some guy jumped in front of me and suckerpunched me and knocked me out cold on the curb. I woke up and felt these theives grabbing my wallet, phone, and gold ring. As I finally came to, I saw them run off into a cab. I ran in front of the cab and put my hand out in a stop signal and the cabbie jumped out and started yelling at me. They were sitting in captains chairs in the back of a van cab. I quickly opened the door and poked my head in and saw my phone and wallet on one guy's lap and snatched it back real fast. He was shocked. The other guy had my military school ring (solid gold and worth over $1K). I said "give me my fucking ring back now." He evaded and jumped out and started running towards Ave C on 6th. I chased him down and he went to Ave D and cut a hard left on the sidewalk. I saw he was going left and ran diagonally in the intersection in between cars and tackled his ass so hard into the iron fence on Ave D.

All I could see was red at this point. Before when we were running through the streets I was shouting "I'm going to fucking kill you!!!" and I finally got to him. I immediately had a pep talk with myself in my head - "don't kill this dude," is what I said to myself. So instead of all head shots (punching), I gave this guy a healthy round of body punches. I wanted to immobilize him until the cops came. In my head I was going head shot body shot head shot body shot until finally an officer pulled my shoulder to come off of this dude. He was unconscious.

The officer looked at me, eye with a fresh shiner and blood all over my hands and said "why are you assaulting him?" I pleaded - he assaulted me first and stole my ring. She checked his pockets as he laid limp on the ground and found my ring. She held it on her finger and said "how do I know this is yours?" I quickly showed her my ID I just got back and she matched it with the engraving of my name on the inside of the ring. They put him in a police car to jail and made me go into an ambulance to the hospital for brain scans.

I later had to testify in front of a grand jury about the incident and he ended up getting a few years as he had priors. This was the same year that I started kickboxing, so they picked the wrong person to rob. I was wearing a geeky outfit at the time - a collared shirt and blazer that were absolutely ruined after the scuffle. One good thing about my outfit that night though was that I had on Chuck Taylors, so I had good footing throughout all of this. If I had on dress shoes that night, I wouldn't have been able to sprint with the dude.

I've also been robbed on the beach in Rio as mentioned in the traveling thread. I had my head on my bag on the beach and was sitting with a friend and sat up for no more than 2-3 minutes and reached back to get something out of my bag and the bag was gone. Professional thieves in Rio.

got robbed when I was 16. was waiting for my Uber by a 711 near Newark liberty Airport, a guy asked me for 20dollars and I didn't speak much English back then, had no idea what happened but he looked quite furious and scary so I figured what he prolly wants and gave him all the cash I had.

Now think back, I'm pretty glad I gave him the money otherwise a lot could happen

I was 25, drunk and left the bar by myself around 1 am.  Started walking to look for a cab and was knocked unconscious from behind.   I woke up in a faith mission homeless shelter with no shoes, no phone, no wallet, a broken cheek bone and the other side of my face was all scraped up from where I hit the sidewalk (they did leave my keys though thank god). That feeling of pain and confusion coupled with a hangover was by far the worst feeling of my life.  To make matters even worse, the cops that picked me up off the sidewalk apparently thought i was just a drunk who fell over passed out and that someone picked my pocket, so they didn't take me to the hospital, just signed me in at faith mission as "Jon Doe" and didn't leave their info.   At the shelter some nice lady took pity and gave me a pair of old shoes out of her trunk, a freaking pair of old Air Jordan's that gave me athletes foot!  No one would give me a ride and I didn't know any friend's numbers so I had to hitchhike back to my car.  I was so messed up I started walking in the wrong direction.  After about 45 minutes a plumber picked me up and informed I was going the wrong way and drove me back to my car.  I then went to a friend's place, smoked some weed, used his phone and drove to the hospital where a CT scan revealed the broken face and a concussion.  worst night ever.

fuck bro this story pisses me off

how can you even prevent something like this. Where was this

Yea, my bank has been robbing me of my time for 2 years. Let’s just hope they don’t rob me of a fair bonus this year.

Neighbors house was robbed - they lost $15k+ In valuables.

Although to be fair they did have a few missteps. One was really big windows but no curtains so you could see the stuff inside. Another is that they didn’t really monitor the cars that would stop nearby to their house (later it was found out that these were the thieves plotting to take stuff). Even though it wasn’t my family house it was still pretty unsettling given that it wasn’t too far way and we knew the neighbors pretty well.

Also my dad’s car got broken into once - he accidentally had it unlocked in our driveway and In the middle of the night someone opened it and got what money was there. This was unexpected because we live in a residential neighborhood.
