Have you ever dated someone from the gym?

I've never really met anyone at the gym and dated them, but recently I have developed some close relationships with some level headed and attractive chicks.

They seem to be miles ahead of the duds I seem to run into at the bar. But, my routine is rock solid right now and my workouts are highly focused and beneficial to stress relief as well as psychological and physical well being. I generally try to avoid starting relationships with a) Neighbors b)Coworkers c)People from same gym.

I guess thinking about it now, I'm a serial breakup artist. I like to get a clean break and that's not possible in those three groups.

Has anyone done it before? You crashed and burned and had to switch gyms right?

Once. Met her at the gym where I went on Saturdays (had a national gym plan so I could move around gyms depending on work location). We just started talking about nutrition/diet, boot camps and cardio. So this started off as a friendship and then we started hanging out more until we ended up together.

Pros: - Attractive, healthy, level-headed partner - She wasn't bothered spending time at the gym together or alone - We went on one "sports vacation" together; where you combine sports/activities in a different location (gym, hiking, cave exploration, ..) - We both liked cooking

Cons: - She spent almost every free hour at the gym, had no other hobbies/interests - She wasn't ambitious at all when it came to her career. It is difficult focusing on work or degrees when all you do is work out and do gym classes & yoga. - No good match from an educational/social point of view. You can try finding a better match when selecting gym locations that are more high-end (Equinox is good from what I hear).

I think it is easier finding someone at the gym because you already run into each other all the time or you'll get introduced by someone. And you have at least 1 hobby in common, the health benefit is also great.

Dances with Dachshunds:
I have no idea how people do it. I'd be afraid of getting kicked out of my gym for talking to a girl who wasn't interested. That's basically sexual harassment today--if she's interested, you're charming; if she' s not, you're a harassing creep.

Social etiquette my friend: you never cold call at the gym, you let her express interest first. Women always give off subtle hints.

Well said. Even if they are interested, it can become sexual harassment down the road if they switch their mind. Just look at all the sexual harassment(like you said, almost anything can be construed as sexual harassment) claims in the media right now and guys losing their jobs over it.

...beneficial to stress relief

You know what else is beneficial to stress relief? Busting nuts in/on gym hotties.

I actually met my wife at the gym. No shit. Had casual conversations with her quite often which eventually transitioned into dating. It's really not that weird or difficult. If you have chemistry, you're going to have it no matter where you meet.

Props to you. Still in awe at how it happens but there's more than enough evidence that it does, lol

I'd hate to have to keep running into a girl who shot me down. I fully subscribe to "Out of sight, out of mind" so seeing a reminder of a failure would drive me nuts.

Yeah, it would suck to think you're developing something with a girl at the gym and have her shoot you down when you try to close in on a date. And having to run into her again and again at the gym might suck, too. For me, I usually have a pretty good feel for if she will say yes or no by the time I actually ask (I'm a member of the "let things develop organically and then ask like it's no big deal" club).

And in the end, if she says no, just play it cool and roll with it. Keep going to the gym like nothing happened.
