Via linked in I received a message regarding a possible opportunity from an executive recruiter, however I had just started my analyst year (literally a week ago and am in training.) The message stated that it would be for the same product group at a "strong firm". I am currently at a MM/Tier2 firm.
Do these emails happen quite often, and should it be something to follow up on? tbh I am not even sure I could stomach quitting 2 weeks in while training but just wanted to know...
Additionally, during such interactions is the name of the firm divulged in the first conversation with the HH?
you should quit and join a stronger firm. Banks have no ties to you and you have no ties to them. If the world caves they will shitcan anyone and everyone, so be at a stronger firm.

Dude no one's going to find out. What is the HR team going to hack into your gmail account? Don't open your linkedin on co computers (if they didnt block already). Plus follow up on your own time, on your cell, and hear the HH out.

Usually the name of the firm is not revealed until the end of a phone screening.
The way it works is the HH will call you and have a mini phone screening to see if you are right for the role. If he/she feels comfortable then you will find out the name of the firm and your resume will be forwarded to the appropriate parties at the firm. From there the firm will conduct the interviews.
And yes, HHs are using linkedin more and more these days.
HH's also call and pretend to have opportunities with the sole intent of you giving them a few names of your friends who may be looking. Don't be surprised if he asks you, "oh by the way, do you know of any 3rd year associates or junior VP's looking to make a move?" at the end of your chat then you never hear from him again.
I have never heard of anything like this happening...if this is how the conversation is going its pretty clear they are not legit..
In my experience, every time I speak to a recruiter they typically ask for names of others they could call, especially when I tell them I'm not interested in changing firms. Most of my peers who have had conversations with recruiters have had a similar experience. These HH's are just about always looking for leads of candidates they can call (or atleast that's been the case for the last 18 months or so since the lateral hire market picked back up).
the legit places usually wait until you have at least 6-9 months experience. This place is going to waste your time. Call them if you like, but don't give them SHIT until they tell you what they can do for YOU, and then wait a while: you are in the position of power here.
call and see which firm is it and then switch if the bank interviewing is "better". It's actually common (at least from my experience) that HH start contacting for 1st years even though you just started a couple weeks ago.
You probably just changed your linkedin profile to reflect your new job. You popped on the recruiter's search radar as one of many. Just stay in touch with them, but focus on your current job. Leaving after a month would look really really shitty.
it doesn't hurt you to respond. leaving after a month may look shitty, but who knows what this HH could have to offer down the road. i'd say keep the convo open.
Headhunters are sneaky though. One rang up our office asking for someone, when receptionist asked who was calling headhunter claimed to be her sister.
I don't really know how the headhunter expected the call to workout, did she expect the receptionist to not say who was on the other line before she transfered the call?
