Hedge Fund MBA chances?
Hi, just wanted to explore what my chances might be for a top mba program. I am a bit confused about how smaller hedge funds (2-3B) line up in terms of a MBA program. Here are my stats:
Top 10 Undergrad
3.9 GPA
GMAT 750+
Hedge fund 2-3B (blend between quant and fundamental), almost 50% ppl have MA/PHD from Harvard, Stanford, and the likes. No real track record at sending ppl to b school
What are my chances at H/S? W? m7? Assume no diversity/crazy ECs

Stats looks fine, but given nothing extraordinary on the ECs/Diversity and that you're from a no-name fund, I'd imagine H/S are going to be tough. Rest of the M7 you have a good shot at with a tight story.
I posted this a few times before, but my own personal experience as well as a lot of anecdotal experience from peers is that if you're coming from a non major name PE/VC/HF type of role, that H/S are really tough. You would need to have something really unique about the rest of your application (Olympic Athlete, URM, Major Donor) to offset. Outside of that, with good stats, it seems like people with your background have a good shot at the rest of the M7.
It'll kind of come down to what you want to do Post-MBA and how you tailor that story.
Thanks for responding! would having harvard/stanford faculty in the fund (senior leadership) help at all for h/s? Would W be decently attainable with a good story or would i be realistically looking at booth/sloan/the likes?

Your academic stats are highly competitive at all the top programs including H/S. However, those programs, especially H/S, are also going to want to see leadership and impact along with high stats.
You don't indicate when you intend to apply, but I sense that it's not this year. If I'm right, you can also take on leadership roles off the job and perhaps already can show leadership on the job to enhance the non-academic elements in your profile. You may want to consider a job change to a role that allows more opportunities for leadership and impact if your current job doesn't and if you feel that move will enhance your chances of acceptance.
