Help a girl out
Effectively only know IBD Qs. But need to study for the following now and honestly have no clue what to study or what questions are most likely going to be asked. Any help is appreciated.
PIMCO has developed a significant presence in both alternative credit and private investment strategies. Our strategies include those that seek to identify value primarily in listed securities, relying on fundamental and capital structure analysis, and also strategies that seek to privately finance the debt and equity needs of companies, asset holders, and origination platforms. We invest globally across commercial and residential real estate and mortgage credit, performing and distressed corporate debt, and specialty finance markets.
You will work alongside seasoned associates and Portfolio Managers, focusing on financial modeling and qualitative analysis in support of direct lending and special situations/distressed debt investing. Throughout the course of the summer, you will support their team efforts in sourcing, evaluating, underwriting and managing of alternative credit and private strategy investments. Successful interns receiving full time offers will have the opportunity to join a two year rotational program with a potential for a career track in Portfolio Management.
I want to say CFA level 1 is enough to cover all of that, but then I'm reminded of how stupid this "answer" sounds. I'd be very surprised if there was a concise and short pamphlet for this kind of stuff nonetheless
Bumping & following, fwiw
What sort of position is this for? A FT out of undergrad/ MBA, a SA, or an experienced hire?
If experienced hire, you should know the answers yourself. If it's for a campus (analyst/ associate job), know your bond math, know how an LBO flows, understand intuition behind capital structure (and how different parties claims work on the legal side) and you should be set for the technicals. I think.
Can you elaborate on this part - understand intuition behind capital structure (and how different parties claims work on the legal side)? Tried to finding stuff on it online but feeling overwhelmed. Any resource (website, etc) or insight would help. Thanks!!
As in if there’s a default, who claims first loss, what parties are protected against the loss, what sits at the top of the cap stack. Know the difference between bonds and loans when they are both issued in an M&A or LBO transaction etc. There’s a lot to know and honestly it may not come up at all in interview but you never know

Just know FI. Pimco doesn't do equities. Knowing about the Bill Gross fish situation won't hurt you either.
