Help me out on offers. F500 or keep hustling?
Hi Guys,
Long time stalker, and barely posted.
I've got a dilemma. Was just offered a product management internship at a top tech company (think RIM), however it is 8 months long. I have always wanted to get into banking, but after networking extremely hard, and reaching out to everyone imaginable, even offering to work for free, I still haven't heard back from much places.
Now the offer from the tech company is exploding... and should I take that internship, bust ass and hope that leads to something during F/T recruitment or should I stake it out and keep hustling, hoping to land a ib internship at a boutique?
My GPA is pretty shit (3.1) and I go to a non-target. I've also been thinking doing one of those msc in management programs that Duke / LBS / LSE all offer.
WSO, please help me out.
Go into product management dominate, go back to your MBA and then go to a fund or banking if thats your ultimate decision. You have to consider what you like to do and the type/nature of work. Product management is very flexible, creative, and managing a product process instead of doing one deal and moving on.
If this company is exploding as you say, I'm thinking Google or some mobile company, then you should go there. At the end of the day its where you can learn and ride that growth curve. People rode the tech curve in the 90s and banking in the 2000's.
take it. you'll have a life for a few months. maybe you'll even like it.
dude take it!...product mgmt. at a big name tech company is a great gig.....I would love to trade spots man (in IBD).....I'd think it could also potentially pave a nice path towards VC (maybe with that MBA)
Dude you have an awesome opportunity. Product mgmt at big time tech firms is a great way to get into Venture Capital and business schools will fall over themselves for you.
Take it.
It will be hard for you to get into MS programs from those schools you mentioned with that sort of GPA. But I think your chances will improve after completing this internship.
Take the internship and keep networking. Your resume will look a lot better with the new internship and you will be able to start the conversations all over again when you go back through your contacts.
Thanks for the response guys. Here's an update on the situration:
1) Intern at big tech company in product management team
out of those 3, i would definitely go with the internship at f500... you will have best exit opportunities relative to the other 2 options.
