Help on Understanding Hedge Fund Terminology

I'd like some help in understanding what the following means:

A multi-disciplinary hedge fund with cross-market capabilities.

What does a multi-disciplinary hedge fund mean?

And what does having cross-market capabilities allow?

Thanks.

I believe multi disciplinary is that they invest across multiple products (debt (all levels), equities, derivatives (options, futures, forwards ,etc) and cross market means that they invest in these products in markets all over the world. Basically a fund with almost unlimited boundaries in what they can and cannot invest in.

Get lots of info if you can, as this could mean that they are very sophisticated and integrated platform with a wide reach, or it could mean they have no idea what they're doing and are just all over the place.

Get busy living

I would say "cross market capabilities" actually means something more like what andy describes as the "multi discipline" part...investing across capital structures etc, in a variety of instruments (equities, derivatives, etc), in public and private markets - reference the use of the term here from GS Investment Partners (scroll down);

As far as multi discipline, I would wager a guess that this is implying they operate using a variety of strategies, ie long-short, macro, event-driven, etc. Just my .02, I'd keep digging to get a better idea.
