Help! UVA vs. OSU vs. Michigan
Hi. I want a job in finance, but I am not sure what specific job. I was admitted to UVA, Michigan (Computer Science, not Ross) and Ohio State and I was wondering which one to choose. I would be able to attend Ohio State for free, but I would be 71k in debt if I went to UVA and 68k in debt at Michigan. Where should I go? Thanks.
Unless you are 100% dead set on banking (and even then it could be a very tough call), I’d take the full ride at OSU.
How would you rank the other two?
I think it comes down to fit, although UVA May have an edge all else equal if you’d have a more finance-relevant major. But if you go to Michigan and do well in CS you’ll be just fine.
Agreed with MMBanker14. I'd save the money and go to OSU.
Business 101 - You cant beat free! UVA is awesome but I don't think it beats a FREE OSU! Debt free out Ohio will give you plenty of options. I have an Executive at my company who went to JP Morgan from Ohio State in Finance and then to a top tier MBA. The money you save will be well worth it. I think Ohio State has a great reputation as far as Flagship programs go. UVA is powerful though, but you would have to understand the debt and have a plan to pay it off. Time Value of Money im still with OSU!
Took full ride at OSU over 6figs of debt at UVA/Penn. Best decision I've ever made and I highly recommend it
debt per year or total?
Total
UVA or Mich then. That's not a lot of debt in the grand scheme of things.
How much are you paying in total for UVA/Michigan? The cost includes the cash too, not just the debt. If it's less than Michigan, didn't see that it was CS instead of Ross
It would be 71k in debt for UVA and 38k for Michigan
Michigan with 38k total debt (no cash payments) over OSU full ride 10000% not even a question.
Wait why are you aiming for Business at UVA / OSU and CS at Michigan? As others have stated if you're doing CS because that's all you got accepted for and don't actually like it then never mind what I said above... Econ at Michigan sucks since Ross recruiting is super ross-centric.
In this case I would go OSU > UVA > Not even consider Michigan CS if you don't want to do CS.
If you can afford even a significant portion (aka parents paying and looks like this is not the case) go to UVA, school is legit and very well respected in finance. otherwise OSU, then Mich because computer science is going to be hard and miserable if you just want to go into IB at the end of the day. With the OSU path, you need to commit yourself to being a top tier student though otherwise you'll end up worse off. PM me if you want more advice I transferred from a state school to a semitarget.
EDIT: By garnering a full ride you also totally can be a top tier student at OSU and its a reasonable goal. But I understand the desire to experience your undergrad years at the best school you got into, and everyone thinks highly of UVA.
Can confirm.
Not worth the struggle.
