Hermes Belt
Hi fellow monkeys,
I've recently purchased a Hermes belt (black and brown reversible & silver buckle), and I was wondering how it is perceived in the US? I am planning on using the belt for weddings, christmas party at the office or for a special occasion.
Thanks.
Most people won't know anything about the belt, and those who do know would find it a bit tacky. Just my 2 cents.
Couldn't agree more
Thanks for the feedback QuiltEmerson
Nice for events, best worn with a suit. Only tacky if its worn with jeans imo
don't wear it to the office
its perceived as trying to appear rich by spending money on a Honda logo belt
For some perspective, I did not purchase the belt to show off, I've got it because it's an unwritten rule back home (I'm from the south of France) to get a belt once you get your first real job. It's only to be worn for special occasions and I was wondering how it was perceived in the US. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
Also, I did not get the mainstream H, I got this one (in silver):

That belt is fine it's low key. Just brought that up b/c I got into trouble for wearing my Hermes belt (one of my bosses instantly disliked me during my sophomore internship).
I'd reckon that if you're working at a European IB group, most of them wear pull tabs and don't even wear belts anyways.
Just don't wear it to work in the US. Wearing it to weddings or to the club or whatever is chill. That's where people flaunt their wealth more. And if someone thinks you're tacky at the club who cares.
if you wear a hermes belt you're a tool.
The people I know with Hermes belts (most have been working for 1-3 years) still live off their parents credit cards for all meals, ubers, nights out, etc. It may be a sign of success in the south of France but it is very cringeworthy in the US. It signifies trying to buy your way into BDS status. Far too flashy unless you hang out with the worst kind of people. Coincidently, all the people I know that have them are trust fund babies making
Generally a believer that branding/logos on clothes are an enemy of good taste. Personally, I take this to a bit of an extreme and avoid even small logos on polo shirts. My take: Why would I pay for the privilege of advertising another man's product?
Fair enough guys, definitely a different perception in the US then. I thought if you wanted to show off you would get a LV or gucci belts as it’s much more mainstream. I did not get the classic “H” HighlyClevered but I get your point. Actually Hermes belt is supposed to be a one time purchase as the leather is top notch quality (as long as you don’t get super fat and have to size up). I will never wear it to the office understood.
If you wore a Hermes belt into my office I'd let you go on sight, hope it helps.
Jeff
If you wear Hermes belt into my office, I'd take your belt off and whip you with it.
