HF Final Round Interview - How long to hear back?

Recently had a final round interview at a HF (coming in with 2 yrs. IBD experience). Had previously finished a 1st round fit interview, 2nd round case and presentation, and finally a general fit one with everybody in the firm.

I know for previous SA or FT positions, candidates typically hear back within a few hours or a day max. How do these HF interviews work? I am getting a bit worried as it has been a few days. Just wanted to plan next steps with regards to following up.

Okay thanks. I tried to rationalize it that since it's earnings season they might be busier than normal.

For these interviews, whether it's PE or HF, are candidates given fairly short deadlines to accept or reject? I know for SA or FT some people are wait-listed and the firm may keep you on the hook until their top candidate accepts or rejects. Does that happen for PE / HF opportunities?

Thanks again.

All of the hf processes I've been through have been ~6 months, start to finish. Final round generally isn't the "final" final round and it can drag on a long time without correspondence.

This is anecdotal, I know, but fwiw - I once didn't hear back after a final round for like five months and then was called in for a single interview and then received the offer a day later. Generally, in my experience, if they don't like you they'll let you know right away, but if they like you and you're not their first choice they'll leave you hanging for a while. My advice would be to follow up with them at the one week point if you haven't heard anything and to not burn any bridges because you never know what will happen a couple months down the road.

Thanks for the responses guys.

My last interview was on Monday and from what I understand there are only one or two other people left. Do you guys think it's worth checking in back with them tomorrow (Friday) or wait till next Monday to make it a full week?

Thanks again.

Next Tues or Wed, even better, next Friday; makes you seem more conscientious that they're plausibly busy with other things than whom to hire from three ppl who are not going anywhere. And if you reach out, try to have something more substantial than "I'm just checking in", like "I received another offer but want to check in with you because XYZ makes your team my top choice."

I did not get it unfortunately. Oh well on to the next one! I did what I can. At the fit stage it feels as though there is a larger luck element.

Thanks for sharing, though.

Do you mind telling us a little about the case and presentation you did? Not specifically the company/companies, but the process. Did it inolve a model? If so, just a basic 3 statement? You present a write-up? Or just an actual PPT? They provide any feedback on what you did well or could've done better?

Thanks. It was a take home case; we had a few days to conduct research and produce a model and write-up. Model was standard three statements plus DCF and LBO. Write-up was two pages long. Presented to a couple of the partners with the discussions lasting ~45 minutes. They had the opposite views on the investment than I did, but were happy with the analysis.

I believe around 5-6 people made it to the case round. With 2-3 going to final rounds. At the final rounds the case was not brought again and it was entirely fit questions.

Wanting to bring this back up - during your final round, how many people did you meet? were they senior people or junior team members, and how long did your final round interview last? I've heard these can include lunch or dinner?

Seriously? It's going to be different for every fund. What's the point of getting one data point in this case?

I've worked at a few different funds and have interviewed with over a dozen. I've had lunches in the first round; I've had lunches in the last round. Sometimes I met the most senior people early on, sometimes only for 5 minutes at the end. Sometimes I met with two or three at a time; sometimes only one person in a round. Sometimes I waited months for an answer (even a "yes"), sometimes the whole process took a month from start to finish.
